I saw a dermatologist this morning, as my eyelid condition has perplexed my ophthalmologist. She thinks I may have Rosaceous lymphedema, which is a rare manifestation of rosacea. Not really what I was expecting and extremely depressing, as it seems it is pretty much resistant to any of the standard treatments from what I've read.
She has prescribed a form of doxycycline to try for a few months; also suggested skin patch testing to see if the various eye drops (lubricants, steroids etc) might have been causing a reaction. I doubt this is the underlying cause, I haven't put anything in my eyes for quite a while now and the oedema has been getting progressively worse over the same time.
