Typical MGD eyelid swelling - oedema?

When people refer to 'lid swelling' with reference to ocular rosacea/MGD, do they typically mean inflamed swellings similar to a stye or fluid-related oedema? It isn't clear from reading the literature.

In my case the swelling is definitely oedemic; it can start within an hour of lying down, and disperses rapidly after standing up in the morning; which eye is more swollen usually depends on which has been lower down. I just wondered as when I describe this it seems to puzzle my doctors.
