I've noticed that the lashes on the middle-outside portion of my lower lids have been 'thin' for quite a few years, but since the recent worsening of my eye problems, they seem to have almost vanished completely on my left eye. I don't have advanced blepharitis or obvious rim distortion usually associated with lash loss, but the accompanying lower meibomian glands have dried up noticeably over the same period. Reading up, it appears to be the same portion of the eyelid that is most often affected by ocular lupus (I already suffer from something called UCTD, which is considered to a be mild form of lupus), and can often be the first symptom of this problem.
I just wondered if this pattern of lash loss is fairly common, or particularly specific to lupus? Increasing my dose of plaquenil for the last 6 weeks has helped with rheumatic problems/photosensitivity but so far hasn't had any impact on the eye problem and overall extreme skin dryness that seem to still be worsening.
