Hi
I've been dealing with this for a while now (blepharitis since Feb 2011, and last month the optometrist said I had a bit of MGD). There's one symptom in particular that I'd be grateful for advice with. The areas around my eyes (below and above the eyes, plus middle of the nose) have had a greasy appearance and feel since early April or longer. This is in contrast to the rest of my face. I've tried anti-dandruff shampoos since May (including Nizoral and Selsun), and sometimes washing the foam from the shampoos over my closed eyes. I've been doing warm compresses and eyelid hygiene since March (using Blephasol for the past few months), including a little massage in the latest months. I've been taking flaxseed oil morning and evening since June. The past month or so I've been taking eye health supplements (not sure what good it is doing).
Is there anything else I can do to treat the greasiness around my eyes? As I understand it, a greasy area like this can allow bacteria to thrive. I am hoping that if I can resolve this then it might help with other symptoms.
Some of my other symptoms:
- Just inside my lower eyelids, there is alot of redness. I understand this is the tarsal plate (which my optometrist described as bumpy), and that the meibomian glands lie inside the tarsal plate. But the very inner portions of my eyelid look more pink and I've not been getting bloodshot eyes. I imagine the situation is similar for my upper eyelids. In June I saw an ophthamologist and he noticed white 'bubbles' - he said these were concretions (calcium deposits, caused by irritation to the conjunctiva). My eyelids don't look like the usual blocked MGD pictures that you see.
- Soreness / stinging around the upper eyelids throughout the day. Immediately after I wake up is probably the best I feel all day (especially if I keep my eyes closed after I wake up).
- If I look down then back up, I can feel friction in my lower eyelids.
- I've been getting a few sinus issues and often get
Other things:
- The optometrist suspected allergies because of my 'bumpy tarsal plate'. I had a blood test for allergies which came out normal. I'm planning to have a full allergy test just to make sure.
- I am worried that my MGs have been permanently damaged, either by the prolonged bleph or by massage (Rebecca's post about overdoing massages). The flaxseed oil doesn't seem to have helped me as much as it has for other people.
Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks
Dave
