  • question on meibomian gland dysfunction

According to my DR, he says I have meibomian gland dysfunction as the lipids/oil are too thick and its harder to coat the tear film especially when sleeping. I also saw a definition on meibomian gland dysfunction that says its a lack of oil production. Am i understanding the definition correctly? one says lack of prod the other says too thick

    thanks

He said to use Omega 3 and flax oil each 2000mg a day to thin the lipid

    Eternal, the answer is yes.
In some people their lipid (meibomian gland secretions) are too little or too thick. In some cases omega 3s will liquify the secretions or start the production of the lipids. Sometimes moist heat therapy can liquify the secretions. Each individual can be different. So omega 3s or moist heat can be tried individually or together and usually within 3-4 months an improvement will be noticed if it is going to happen.

Eternal, try watching this video, it might help you understand a bit better:

Note that this treatment is very expensive, it costs about $1500 . You've got a lot of other things to try before you need to consider LipiFlow. Hopefully the omega-3 will do the trick for you, but if not, you'll need to try special eye drops and pills and stuff... and then eventually LipiFlow if none of the drops and pills work. I hope you get better soon!
