I'll feel like I have something in my eye so I'll pull out my 15X magnifying mirror and look. Sure enough, I'll find a clogged gland or two. I'll use a warm compress and then take a q-tip and press at the base of the gland. The 'stuff' comes out and I feel so much better...temporarily. Within a few hours my lid margin will puff up and get inflamed. Then I'm dealing with itching, burning, pus filled lid margins top and bottom. Has anyone else with ocular rosacea noticed that expressing seems to make things worse?

Expressing causes more inflammation for me

Thank you. I agree, Hopeful2, I feel so much better seeing that 'liquid gold'. There are times when I don't see anything and others when I see pus filled, swollen, inflammed rims. It's so hard to know what's best. Warm compresses or cold? Express or don't? I would think after 7 years of this I'd have it figured out by now. Most of the time I use a warm washcloth in the tub and that usually works good but there are days when the rims are just so painful and sensitive. Or my lids feel raw. So miserable!!

ive got ocular rosacea and i finally figured out if the compress is too hard and/or i push too hard with a qtip i pay for it big time even if the gland gets unclogged-all the heat and even just the intense probing irritates the blood vessels for hours sometimes the rest of the day-not worth it.. now i just use warm compresses and my fingers-if i see an ext clogged gland i just gently massage-it usually doenst come completely out when i press super hard anyway-that is usually what i leave up to my doc to express-and then i dont hurt so bad. warm over hot compresses are so much better for me -prob cause of my rosacea..just my experience. good luck!Jenny
