  • BlephEx - price starter kit?

    Hi all,
does enyone know, what the price for the BlephEx starter kit is?

The ophthalmologists org does recommend a price for one 6-8 min treating session of
$150-250. repeated treatments every 4-6 months. That price is OK!

In a PDF at the revoptom.com website, they are stating a unit Price for the
    BlephEx starter ki of $9986!!!!
BlephEX does look like a electric tooth brush with a rotating special sponge.

Please Google BlephEX Price $9986 - then scroll down the PDF for BlephEx

BlephEx is very well suited for the lid wiper debridement and does not cause so much
damage to the lid margins than the Gulf Club rod tool.
Certainly also BlephEx will take away most of the superficial mucin producing goblet cells,
but it will not touch the deeper located crysts of goblet cells.
Hopefully even the superficial goblet cells will come back after a few days.

We all do know that these companies wanna make a lot of money, but almost ten thousand
dollars for such a simple device and what are the costs for the replacement sponges?

How many doctors will buy the BlephEx to treat their patients.

    Thank you

    Hi all,
dr Korb just published in the Cornea journal an article on the debridement of the lid margins.

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24145633

A careful debridement of the lid margins - Line of Marx-LOM is necessary every 3-6 months.
Dr Korb does use a Golf Club spud to remove debris, crusts, superficial obstructions from the MG orifices etc.
Especially important is to remove the edge at the LOM, that does rub and scrape over the corneas.
Thereby causing mechanical irritations, micro Traumata and the movement pain.
So the lid margins-lid wiper should be as smooth as possible!

Dr Korb does use a Golf Club spud

Using this tool can be a bloody matter. Not so experienced users do frequently hit a
    small blood vessel.
I think a spinning micro sponge-BlephEx or a spinning Q-Tip does this Job better.

At their website Rysurg do not mention the debridement effect of BlephEx.
They only claming, that BlephEx does clean the lid margins very well.
But a careful cleaning of the lid margins with a tool like BlephEx does always include a debridement function.
I don`t know the US laws regarding FDA approval. Maybe Rysurg do not have the BlephEx approval for
    debridements.

Dr Korb and others now also perform the

    Lid margin Exfoliation,
Please have a look at Youtube or Vimeo on that:

So it is getting more and more difficult and expensive to get the optimal and really successful
    MGD and Dry eye Treatments.

    The Treatment plan:

    1. Debridements and Exfoliations
    2. MG probings, if the clogged MGs can`t be opened by other means
    3. Warming-up the MGs and careful Manual expressions one time every week!!
Respectively Lipiflow, who can afford one to two times seesions in a month.
    4. A good Long Lasting ointment-gel for the nights and goggles-gel masks for the night.
If the lids do not Close completely for hours, the water does evaporate from the meibum
right at the MG orifices. So the meibum if getting more and more sticky building-up obstructions.
That is the same effect like the reduced blink rate while working at a PC Display.
    According to dr Korb:
The beneficial effects of Lipiflow will only last for 2-3 weeks, if the patients don`t
apply a night cover for their eyes to prevent dryness - moisture Evaporation of the MGs-lid margins.
    5. Non of These therapies do address directly the Problem of the
mucin lid-eye movement gel pads at the lid wipers!
We can only hope that if the over-all Situation of the ocular surface, tear film etc. does improve,
the mucin gliding gel cushions will improve too.
