Does this procedure sound familiar?

Hi all,

I found an optometrist not too far away who seems interested in the Meibomian glands and has something called the Advanced Dry Eye Institute (tho the "advanced" part might be more about promoting a practice than handling patients). The site describes a test at http://www.myeyesaredry.com/services...e/testing.html that says: "Using a microscope to evaluate the health of the eyelids and the special glands along the lids will be preformed."

I know it's not much to go on, but does this test sound like the meibography talked about at http://www.dryeyezone.com/talk/showthread.php?t=6184 (using a transilluminator and a slit lamp)? Or is this some other procedure that rings a bell with anyone?

Hi Argee- You need to call the doc's office and ask some pointed questions about his dry eye practice. It seems that a doctor "advertising" he does dry eye care is probably on the level. Dry eyes do not bring a doctor big bucks and it's probably only a small part of his practice.

If he is near you, that's convenient, saves gas and all the right reasons. Probably no two dry eye specialists are going to do exactly the same treatments. Best of luck. Lucy

Not. This is just a slightly dressed up way of saying "We'll gaze at your eyes & lids through the slitlamp and pontificate about what we see there".... Bearing in mind these sites are written for people who don't know anything about eyecare and dry eye diagnostics. But I agree with Lucy, anybody advertising for dry eye probably cares, and anybody showing interest in MGs is a step in the right direction.

Thx to you both for your thoughts. I was hoping that this sounded like some terrific procedure for evaluating the Meibomian glands beyond the usual. This doc no doubt doesn't offer anything ground-breaking in the way of treatment, at least not anything that hasn't been discussed here many times, but I think knowing the status of the glands could help in guiding treatment decisions. ~Argee
