  • Laser and Rosacea - Very Interesting

If any medical professional reads this post, please offer some input even if it is an opinion.

In the video accessed via the link below, the doctor states that the intense pulse light laser can remove the blotchy red spots in the cheek which leads to "...helps with rosacea ocular condition." I wonder if this is accurate. Either way, i wanted the laser done just for cosmetic reasons. I have the blotchy red spots the doc is talking about, but i do not know if that is what causes the ocular rosacea.

Either way, I am on a non stop hunt to help my meibomians make some oil.

    More information....

Well, I did some more digging and found a rosacea specialist by the name of Dr. Nase.

Check out his website and check out the bottom of this link; he describes how he believes laser treatment of the angular artery can help with MGD consideraby.

I guess MGD due to rosacea is a vicious cycle due to the affect on the goblet cells which then causes inflammatory cytokines to be produced due to the affect on the tear film layer.

It would be great to be corrected by a medical professional, but this leads me to believe that the ocular rosacea patient with MGD hs MGD becasue of this cycle occuring at night when there isnt as much aqueous tear and the minimal oil causes inflammation of the cornea surface.

Dr. Nase has a consultation program which i may give a shot. The description is on his web site.

I have had several laser(IPL) treatments for facial rosacea and I believe the treatments along with gland expression and azasite have made my ocular condition much better. I still have bad days but my eyes feel ok most of the time instead of miserable all of the time.

Regarding Dr. Nase, he seems very knowledgeable but is a well known scam artist. There is a website regarding this. http://debunkingnase.org/index.php?title=Main_Page

I have been interested in this for while.

Although i am very skeptical of Dr nase, i do actually believe hes got a point.

It is not only him who claims IPL can help for ocular rosacea, Dr toyos has been having success for dry eye (MGD) by treating certain areas of the face with IPL

Also the texas institute for rosacea who drnase was connected to, can do this procedure, treating the peri- nasal area, i phoned Dr neilson asking about it and he confirmed what i read on Dr nases links about, reducing vascular blood flow to the eyelids to help MGD function.

It does make sense to me because i think ocular rosacea is mainly vascular related.

Im just not sure it would help someone who has hardly any facial rosacea, would treating the face help the eyes if you don't have much of the facial component??. I have, but its not much. I think thats the main question here. Because the face and the eyes dont seem to cause the each other.

pj95, can i ask how bad was your facial rosacea? do you believe it only helped your eyes because your face was bad in the first place and that had a knock on effect on your ocular rosacea?

          What areas did they treat?

          thanks.

Good job finding more information on this.

I am going to start researching who is doing this procedure in the Northeast and will most likely have it done. Worst case scenario I will have the red blotches removed off my face.

Keep me posted Meebo as i am very interested in this, if you find anyone in your area who can do it, and let me know how it went.

I think any dermatologist can do it- if they know what/ where to treat the face and how often etc. with IPL and broadband.

Maybe you could consider making a trip to dr toyos? or try contacting him and ask him of he is willing to email a local dermatologist to outline the prodedure. Or maybe he knows someone nearer to you.

I live in the UK so it will be a pain trying to find someone who will do this. He said on the bottom link (posted) he does a few treatments a month to stabilize things. So doubt i will be able to fly over that many times.
