  • Azasite obtaining in UK & usage?

    Hi all

I have read numerous posts about the quantity of drops in each Azasite bottle and I am still uncertain how much I will need to buy. As I am going to attempt to get these online and shipped to the UK I want to get sufficiant quantity to last the period of my trial with the drops.

I would like to have enough to complete the following:

Twice a day for 2 days followed by once a day for 28 days = approx 32 drops.

Can anyone suggest how much I need to buy ? What size bottle(s) would be appropriate?

Also has anyone successfully had Azasite shipped to Europe without a prescription? (my NHS eye consultant could not prescribe as Azasite has not been approved for use in UK blah blah )

Thanks as always friends - and may your quest for relief be a successful one!

I went to see someone privately last week and he hadn't even heard of Azasite.

I don't really have any advice to offer, but as another UK person who has asked the NHS for Azasite, I'd be interested to hear how you get on with it, both getting and using.

        Hi,
I havent been able to get any shipped to UK either.
As for quantity if you are sparing a 10ml bottle lasts a suprisingly long time.

Please keep us up to date if you obtain some.

        Regards.

Hi fellow UK sufferers - yea the knowledge of Azasite in the uk seems to be non existent. In fact my NHS consultant was very interesteed in the Azasite information I had and even asked me to send him a copy

Fair enough it has not been approved for use I suppose - I just think that as Bleph is so common I would want to be up to speed with the latest developments if I were a consultant just to stop patients like me appearing to be more aware of new treatments than the consultant! He was adamant that he could't prescribe which is understandable.

We need some firm info regarding Azasite European marketing / approval - do we have any industry insiders?

I managed to communicate with someone in the UK several months ago - he was an industry `insider' but I forget where he was based.

I think discussion is going on about getting Azasite into Europe but they need to work out who their partners / distributors would be. Azasite is manufactured by a small company and this is part of the difficulty.

Where are you planning to order it online?

I couldnt find any non prescription sites that sold it.

Well considering restastis STILL isnt available here- presumably because the crappy nhs wont fund it, i dont expect this to be available for some time either.

                On the subject of Restasis....

Last week, I posted my experience of trying to get Restasis from Boots the Chemist. I saw someone privately and they gave me a prescription for Restasis drops. Boots were going to charge something in the region of £480 for a months supply.

When I called in to get my prescription returned, the pharmacist said there had been a miscalculation. Of course I thought it might be less than the price quoted initially. No. It should have been £965 - and that was with 10% discount. And yes, that was for a months supply.

Thats ridiculous, if you have a prescription you can get it imported at a certain pharamcy (name escapes me) but info i think is somewhere if you do a search, it was less but still expensive- £200 or something.

Have u considered getting it from www.edrugnet.com? i and others have got it from here, it is the legit stuff. Another member who had great success but used to fly to the states to get a years supply, is now getting it from here.

I had a similar thing with that oitment with salt in it that you use for RCE's (can't think of the name at the moment).

It is a tiny tube and it was going to cost me £170 for it here when you can buy it OTC in the US for around a tenner.

We just get done here sometimes, but at least we can buy Clinitas Ultra 3 OTC for less than a tenner, so that is cheaper than the states and you don't need a script.

Hi Sazy - I had hoped there would be a way to get it shipped to the UK but I fear not after reading this thread

                      Soooo... could this work?:

Book a private session with Mr Latkny in NYC.
Fly over and have the session and maybe (obv dependant on clinical outcome) obtain a script for Azasite.
Then either pick it up from a drugstore in NYC or ask for it to be mailed to me back inthe UK?

Obviously it would need to be a substantial amount of Azasite or would it be possible to obtain repeat scripts from Mr Latkny remotley should I need more in the future?

The fact that I am considering this seems like madness - but as you all know it would be worth the expense (and jet lag!) if it gives a modicum of relief.

I would appreciate the thoughts of anyone inb the US as to how feasible this sounds?

I can feel a quest coming on!! - honey! go get my cloak!

Ellmitcho, ive done the same thing and would do it again in a heart beat if there something i really wanted to try.

Yes you can get it from a pharmacy, but you would need to get quite a few bottles, get a refill script. If it helps you would have to stock up on loads next time. Obviously azasite isnt cheap, i think someone said it was $60 from wallmart- so shop around, and seeing doctor latkany isnt cheep, i think it was about $300?

                          Hi Ellmitcho

A trip across the pond had crossed my mind too. (Are there regular flights from from John Lennon Airport?)

Yes - isn't this all SO MAD? Why are we in this position?

                            Irish Eyes,
I can only agree with you on the madness! In my naive days I used to think only fools looking for a cure for the rarest disease would consider trans-atlantic travel to see a doc....Now I am one of those "fools" with what seems a very common condition.

                              Hi all

Thanks for the advice everyone - not sure about the flights from JLA I know they used to do a NY flight but they tend to be expensive compared to Manchester so I would prob depart from there.

I guess my first step is to contact dr latkny and go from there.

                              Cheers
