I finally found a doctor that gave me a diagnosis that makes sense. I have facial/ocular rosacea and blepharitis. He gave me a prescription for Azasite to get it under control. I have been using a face mask for a while at night, and recently bought the tranquileyes (not sure about these yet). I have woken up more comfortable since using the mask. Does anyone know if this is helpful to treat blepharitis, or does it make symptoms worse? I forgot to ask the doc, but will when I return in 3 weeks. I don't want to cancel out any improvement by doing something that may make it worse.

What is your nationality and how much redness does your face have on a scale from 1-10 and where is it located?
Are you male or female?
Do you get tan in summer?
Where are you located?
What is your doctors name? I he an opto or an optha?
Is the azasite making you feel better?
Are you taking anything else in regard to medicine? Did Dr. mention anything about an allergy drop? Patanol/pataday? Any steroids like lotemax?
Did the Dr. mention how much oil is coming out when he expressed the glandss? What did he say in regard to them being clogged or dysfunctional?
Do you know what your TBUT (tear break up time) is? In your case in should be lower than 10 seconds.
How red are your eyes when you feel pain?
What is main symptom? (watery, pain, etc.)
DId Dr. mention anything about allergies?
Do you eat bread daily? Peanuts daily? Alcohol? Tomatos in high volume or tomato sauce regularly?
What soaps and cleansers do you use? What type of soap, what type of facial cleanser, what time of shampoo and or conditioner, what type of hair products. Do you wear makeup? If so what kind.
Answer these questions. I have been diagnosed with what you have and stopped using irish spring soap. I also found my parents house is very dusty and has been affecting me (runny nose, watery eyes). I also have been using pataday and it helps my eyes. I am beginning to believe I have allergies and if there is an ocular component my allergies exacerbate the condition.Current Diagnosis: MGD due to Ocular Rosacea , TBUT of 5 seconds

I have Irish/Welsh/English ancestry. My face has always been red. I blushed and flushed alot growing up. The redness is mainly in the T zone, with raised bumps on my cheeks by my nose and on my chin and central forehead. I am female. I'm sure there is a diet component to it. My mom controls her rosacea through eliminating wheat and other ingredients from her diet. Hard to do for me with 2 kids and limited income. My sister has rosacea as well. I noticed her eyes yesterday and they look like mine, but she doesn't complain about them. We are fair complected, we burn....do not tan, and are blond.
I use head and shoulders shampoo and conditioner because I get itchy scalp if I don't. I just switched to Cetaphil face wash and moisturizer, but have always used clean and clear before that. I really don't wear makeup.
The doctor didn't share the particulars of the tests he did...he just said insufficient/poor quality tears. He said I didn't have enough oil to spread my tears out sufficiently, which is causing the blurry vision. This is my 2nd day on azasite, so I don't have an opinion yet. I think it is a short course of antibiotic to get the symptoms under control. If that doesn't work, the next step is oral antibiotics. I don't seem to have allergies. I never have, and I don't have watery eyes or sneezing/runny nose.
My symptoms: achy eyes, especially under the lower lids. I bombed the shirmers test when I took it last summer, but have been made more comfortable with lower plugs....so doc said the quantitative aspect has been addressed. I have intense itchiness in the corners of my eye and in general on my eye lids. They are red and inflamed....it looks like I have red eye liner on. My main complaint has been blurry vision for some months now. Every now and then I'll have a day of crystal clear vision, so I know my eyes are capable of 20/20 vision. The next day it will be a muddy mess. He said that my glands are clogged. he didn't mention dysfunctionality. Docs name is Dr. Heigle in Baton Rouge, LA. with the EYE Medical Center.
Your turn....What is your routine to maintain your symptoms?

Hi,
Just a footnote.....
People with rosacea have a much higher than average tendency to have allergies.
I also have both.
You may want to do a search on here of contact allergies.
Itchy eyes are for sure allergy related.
I thought rosacea was causing my pain, but actually it was the allergies.
I got the rosacea under control pretty easily.
