  • MGD question

My optometrist told me that my oil glands are clogged but he didn't actually say that i have MGD and he didn't refer me to an opthomolgist either, which i think he should have. about a year ago my left upper eyelid was itchy so i rubbed my eye, but then this red spot developed that my optoetrist said is dilated blood vessels. the last few weeks the eyelids of both my eyes had been getting slightly swollen and itchy but i wasn't rubbing them or anything. my left eyelid has now devloped dilated blood vessels as well. and my eyes get red, not my eyeballs but the area around my upper eyelids. is this redness normal with MGD? and does anyone have any advice about the dilated blood vessels? it's making me not want to leave the house. Thanks.

I would go see an eye doctor as soon as possible. Try to find someone who is knowledgeable about eye conditions, whether it be an optometrist or an ophthalmologist, there are good ones and not so good ones out there. It is important to find a good one. Try to look on the forum for some recommended doctors that you could make an appointment with. I hope this helps.

I don't really agree with this actually. It's a matter of getting to the RIGHT optometrist or ophthalmologist. Personally I think I know more ODs than MDs that are really good at diagnosing and treating MG issues.

You can always ASK for a referral to a corneal specialist if you don't feel you're making progress with the care you're getting.
