  • Meibomian gland cyst?

    Hi All,
I have been suffering from dry eyes for five months. After many trips to many different doctors, I was diagnosed with Meibomian gland dysfunction a month ago and put on a three month course of docycycline as well as instructed to do hot compresses and lid massages twice per day to expel the oil and sweep away any residue.

Yesterday morning I woke up and noticed an aching pain in my eyelid when I blinked. While doing massaging my lower lid, I realized that the lower corner was quite sensitive and hurt when I swept my finger over it, so that seems to be the source of the pain. There was no visible swelling, but the lid margin in the corner of that eye does seem to be a bid red.

It is still bothering me this morning and I am afraid that it might be the beginnings of a cyst. For those of you who have had experience with this - does this sound like it? Any ideas on what else I should be doing? Is there anything a doctor can do at this point, or do I have to just wait and see if it gets worse? The doctor I am seeing is an hour and a half away and is not exactly the "stop by and see me anytime" type (unfortunately,) so I don't feel as though I can just drop in and have him take a look.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Best,
    Isabelle

Ignore this thread - I went to the Dr. and she couldn't see anything wrong with the painful spot except for some "follicles." Looks like it is just another fun symptom of dry eyes.

Have you ever tried Azasite? Mine get like that quite often ,and azasite , does the trick.

        Hi,
No, I have not. I am currently midway through a three month course of doxycycline for MGD, and the optometrist that I saw most recently prescribed a steroid drop (Alrex) specifically for the follicle issue, but I have been too afraid to use it because it contains Benzalkonium Chloride. Do you have MGD also, or just issues with eye allergies?

          All of the above.

I would not over react to the BAK thing too much.

Most problems occur when people over use it, or don't follow Dr instructions.
You might be surprised how much good a course of steroids can do.

Alrex is a mild steroid, so don't be afraid to give it a try.
I go on and off azasite and steroids all the time.
Both have BAK, and both help me a lot.

Todays Dr visit suggested a 6 week course 4x daily of Lotemax.
And that was when my eyes felt pretty good!

Just curious...was it the inner or the outer corner. I ask cause the majority of what little pain I have now is concentrated on my bottom inner corner.

i too have my Lotamax on hand..I call it the big guns. I rarely use it but it's such a comfort to know it's there.

            B.
