  • My red eyes - one more than the other

    Hi,

I am 20 years old and suffer from bloodshot eyes. Over the years my eyes tended to become extremely bloodshot after computer usage. In the last year or so my eyes have gotten to the point that they can be bloodshot in the evening or when I didn't get a lot of sleep the night before. None of these are likely unusual conditions. However, my eyes have always been MUCH more red than others.

So in July I went to see an eye doctor. He examined me, took pictures of the back of my eyes?, and determined that I had blepharitis and moderate dry eye. He suggested systane and baby shampoo scrub. He also put me on Azera (sp?) for 5 days. Since then - I've tried normal systane, systane ultra, refresh pf, refresh celluvisic pf, and genteal gel (for at night). My current regime is refresh pf 2-4 times a day and celluvisic if my eyes are extremely red. I also switched to OCuSOFT eye scrub pads (because I had heard bad things about using shampoo).

So here is where I am. Usually when I wake up in the morning my left eye is slightly red. However, my right eye is always moderately red in the white part of the eye on the nose side of the iris. The redness gets slowly better throughout the day. Usually, the left eye looks fine and the right eye still shows some redness (which is easier to see when I am inside). However, once 9:00 PM hits my eyes start getting much worse. The left eye becomes moderately red and the right eye gets extremely red (always the nose side of the white part). Drops at this point do not make any difference is appearance. Throughout the day I feel slight irritation when I have been on the computer for a while...however, the pain is not something that significantly bothers me. It is mainly redness. My right eye always hurts a little more however.

My question is: should I start looking for more treatments? See another eye doctor? I did not tell the last one the right eye was significantly worse (I didn't notice it at the time). Perhaps that would affect the diagnosis? Thanks for your help.

-Eyes tire easily, particularly noticeable from reading, watching TV or using a computer

      Hi,

I do not know what you should do, but i just want to tell you you are not alone i too have this one eye more red than the other. I guess it is the eye that has the most blood veesels when my eyes gets dry they also gets more red. I use eyedrops before i think they will be red, and i also drink a lot of water, It helps a little. whatever you do, i do not think you should use any ointment that has vaseline in it cause that was what caused my red eyes. It stays in your eyes for a very long time, too long. Your eyes needs oxygen.

Do you have red veins in your eyes all the time? In my case the veins are the big problem if i did not have veins i would not have pain or extreme redness. Do you were contact lenses?

Maybe you should go and see an dry eye specialist but it is not easy to find. You can always google dry eye doctors and see if any comes up.Most eyedoctor do not really care about dry eyes.

I have red veins in my eyes most the time. And no, my vision is fine. I have come to the realization that my condition is not the worst because of my lack of significant irritation. I mainly deal with the cosmetic side (red eyes) of dry eye. I was posting to ask if there is any reason why I should be worried about the fact that one eye is worse...like viral infection or something? Also, I was considering getting a pair of non prescription lenses to distract from my red eyes. Has anyone tried that?

If you went to a doctor and he told you that you have blehaparitis and dry eyes and he said nothing about the one eye that is more red, i do not think you have anything to be worried about. Viral infecions is something i think most eyedoctors knows about and can cure. But still if you are worried go back to the doctor or to another doctor. I donīt think you are the only one with one eye worse than the other.

Donīt know anything about lenses maybe someone else knows...

I've been suffered from red eyes for 15 yrs. Also no significant pain. But my coach turned into a pumpkin after 8-9pm ie my eyes became so red that it was uncomfortable for me to socialize. This spring I started doing hot compresses and lid scrub and my eyes have become almost normal. Can't describe the relief
