Hey everyone,
I vacationed in Peru for about 2 weeks and I was curious about seeing an eye doctor there just to see if they can tell me something different. I'm glad I did. The doc I saw was really nice and understanding. She did see bleph (nothing new) and just a tad of dryness. She asked wether I had a culture of eye secretions done in the US anbd I said no. She was stunned to say the least. Seems like over there a BLEPH diagnosis requires a culture to be done to identify the organism (if any). I should have the results of the culture by week's end to see what came up..bacterial/viral infection, etc. In the mean time I was given the following instructions:
1) Do lid scrubs (baby shampoo or commercial scrubs).
2) Avoid HOT compresses which increase the inflammation already present and can tend to make dryness worse.
3) Drink water (plenty)
4) Add omega 3 (fish/cod liver)
5) Use an antibiotic/steroid combo drop for X amount of days. I was prescribed Ciproxxak, which is Ciproflaxacin/ Dexomethasone combo. In the event that the culture reveals an organism not vulnerable to Cipro, then a replacement antibiotic componemt will be prescribed.
Well, I can't believe i had a culture done. Over here, I practically begged and nobody listened or thought it was a waste of time. I sure hopes this will bring the bleph down cuz the scrubs alone were doing something but not a whole lot. Anyone have an eye culture done?? What came up? What were you prescribed and did the bleph eventually calm down? I'd sure like some feedback on this one!!
Marc.
