What does this mean and what is the likely cause etc...?

I also experience this especially after taking a nap/closing my eyes for 1 to 2 hours but the redness would subside after a couple of hours. But I don't experience this when I wake up in the morning after sleeping for 8 hours which I find confusing. -
My eyes have always been red when I wake up, but my opthamalogist said its because I am suffering from dry eye syndrome.
He gave me a few tips on what to do though so i will share them with you:
-if you sleep with a fan on, DONT, he said that when we are in our deep sleep our eyelids open up a bit so having a fan on will dry the eye!
-use a humidifier
