  • trouble after having antisethetic put in eyes?

has anyone else experienced very dry eyes after having anesthetic drops put in by their doctor? I had 2 appointments this past week and both times anesthetic drops were put into my eyes. I am dry non-stop now. Can they affect the tear film that much and if so , for how long? I last went on Wednesday to the doctor ..Thanks for any input!

I have the same reaction every time I have anesthetic drops put in. The more that are put in, the worse the reaction. It generally only flares me for a day or so. I just flush with lots of saline and then put in lots of drops. I also wonder if different brands give different reactions, or maybe the dryness of the eye to begin with has something to do with the severity of the reaction.
Every day with DES is like a box of chocolates...You never know what you're going to get.

thanks for responding kitty! he put in quite a bit both monday and again on wednesday so i am a little better today-it will probably take a few more days considering how much was used... i appreciate your response! i had been doing great for months and that is the only thing that changed so I guess my tear film has been disturbed-and it struggles so much as it is!

When ever I go to the eye doctor and they put drops like that or do any type of work on my eyes I am in a flare up after. I have been to 30 eye apts I would say in the past year and this has happened always. Sorry I wish I had more answers just what I experience

How about ultrasound gel? I had an orbital ultrasound to rule out orbital thyroid disease and a big old glop of gel got in my right eye. I had intense burning in and around the eye for about 12 hours after. It was awful.

I kind of like anesthetic drops. Lets me forget about it all for awhile.

              anaesthetic in eyes

I'm afraid I cannot give you a medical answer, but can tell you that I had anaesthetic put into my eyes last Thursday 12th, and I'm still suffering, definitely has made them worse unfortunately. Will avoid having that done again!!
