  • To my dear husband without dry eye...

...who insists on using the ceiling fans all around the house. I'm daydreaming about asking him to hold his eyes open without blinking for 30 seconds, then waving a paper fan in his face...

You need a woman cave. Is there a fan in the kitchen? If so, sounds like someone we know is going to have to carry the load in that room.

I have this problem with my boyfriend. Our ac vents SUCK so I can really feel the breeze, so I usually have it turned off (I never get hot to begin with so that helps, but not for him!). He's a good sport about it most times. Bless his heart, we don't use the fan in our bedroom anymore ever since my eye mess started.

My husband is the same way too, especially in the car, he blast the AC and even when I turn off my vents it is still dry in the car. Maybe try a humidifier in the rooms he spends the most time in so he can have his AC and fans and you can have moist air so your eyes won't be as dry. Helped in our bedroom at least.

This issue is not much talked here.

But one of the worsts things about moderate and severe dry eyes like ours is the limitation of social life and relationships that it imposes to us.
Sharing a home becomes a problem. Going to a bar, to a cinema, to the beach, becomes a problem. We can't stand the lights, AC, fans, i.e., the enviroment that is confortable to others. So we tend to close ourselves alone in a bedroom or in a house.

In my new job there is a girl I like, and she has dry eyes either (not as bad as mine). For sure in my condition she is the right one to me.

Do I hear you here! My boyfriend gets frustrated and says "You are CHOOSING not to enjoy your life" when I tell him it's hard to enjoy the little things like I used to because my eyes dry out and are painful. People simply do not understand, it's frustrating on either ends, I want him to understand so badly what I am saying, yet he too is frustrated b/c he thinks I am CHOOSING to let this "ruin" my life.

I wish he could live my life and what I feel for a day, that will shut him the heck up maybe.

I feel bad for my boyfriend who has been really understanding. The other day I had forgotten to turn on the A/C (have gotten used to keeping it 78 in the house) and he came over to visit after having a strenuous day of yard work. He kindly asked "um...can we turn on the air?" I could tell when he asked that he was burning up. I felt terrible having been oblivious to the fact that he was uncomfortable for that half hour stretch.

Soooo..... I turned on the a/c and I sat there wearing my super HOT looking goggles.

You describe it so good, Bakunin. You cannot longer participate in all the things that friends do.
And then they say, well, get in touch when you are feeling better!! But if my eyes never become better??
As a single woman most of my social life has been around travelling, parties, bars, nights out, concerts, dinners etc etc... Nothing much is happening at home. At home I LOVED to read. I read everything, have done since I was a small child - reading is my meditation and stress reducer- now that that is gone, well.... so awful...
