2 Weeks ago I felt one of my eyes hurting and thought I'd scratched it. I went to the hospital and got given some stuff. When I went back they said I had one dry eye, I went back again in more pain they said I had 2 dry eyes, then today I cannot cry tears! I was balling my eyes out yesterday and the water works were fine, now today they have stopped and my nose and mouth are so dry. I am so scared I don't understand this ridiculously fast onset of problems, It's only been to weeks!

relax dear. Yes, when i first had dry eye i didnt know what I had at all. Only realizing i had a really bad chronic condition then came depression and etc. Chill it off, work on diet ASAP and try to not be harsh on your eyes with computers, etc etc. Eat magnesium, omega 3 and vit c. Take a break from work or school only if you can. Thats it, right now there are no cures for dry eye. Put in eye drops if you want but im not a big fan of those.

I agree that it is odd that dry eye would manifest itself so quickly. Having said that you now have to set about trying to find why your eyes are so dry. Not to be discouraging but that in itself can be a battle. There are many things you can do for dry eye but most of it is symptom control. Don't panic though, there is much that can be done to increase your comfort level and most of it you will find on this website. If you live in a climate where the air in your house is heated make sure that you have a humidifier going in your house so that the air is not so dry. Dry eye and mouth/nose go hand in hand with Sjogren's syndrome. You may get blood tests that are negative for Sjogren's but that happens in 25% of the cases so does not conclusively rule it out. Mine were negative so I had a lip biopsy done that showed positive. Getting a diagnosis is half of the battle. Start there and in the meantime get some good preservative free drops like systane ultra. I highly recommend the Wiley-X goggle glasses especially for outside or riding in the car. Mine are prescription sun glasses and are wonderful.
I assure you there is way more information on this website that you will ever find in a doctors office. Here is a link to a post by Rebecca Petris one of the administrators that you should read before your first Dr. appointment
http://www.dryeyezone.com/talk/conte...-how-to-get-it I highly recommend it.
Most of all don't despair and don't panic just recognize that something has changed and that you are going to need to make some changes in your environment but you will eventually get there...cheers...F/G

I know how blind sided this can feel, because that is exactly what happened to me, right down to the "something in your eye feeling" I went in and was told I had my first corneal abrasion from blinking. I do not have the dry mouth or nose tho, but was tested for sjogrens and came back negative, I'm hoping that was right, now that I know of the 25% but without symptoms of other dryness I would push further. It's important to get tested. I have tried restasis, steroid drops, plugs, and too many drops to count. I finally found a drop that did not irritate my eyes more and use only it now, I also wear contacts now which protect my eyes from the abrasions that were awful. I take fish oil, primrose oil, and try to stay very hydrated. Some days are better than others, and I'm always hoping and praying for a cure. It has been 2 years now since I was able to cry, I miss it more than can be imagined. Hang in there, there are many things that help. I've gotten some great advice from this forum, and tho not any one thing seems to work for all, there is a lot of things that do help.

So sorry Gemj! Find a good doc and do have some blood tests run. Everyone is right. You need a sound diagnosis, and will probably need to include an eye doc, GP and possibly a referral to specialists. Amen to an anti-inflammatory diet. Not so easy to do, but helpful. Best of luck and lots of positive vibes your way.
