  • 2 months and no progress...ugh

Dry eye is really something hard to cure or recover from but I can atleast be thankful that I lasted this long. My goal was taking break of screens for 3 months and working on diet so i can start seeing a recovery. Today, I had enough, I started on Nov 15. I was only taking vit D supp since I read good things but I think i was losing my time since this isnt enough. I have read good things about vit C too. Someone told me milk is good for dry eye, well there is magnesium, vit D and A in milk. I decided to take only vit D with a few vit C supps here and there (just 500 mg). Right now im taking vit c 250 mg but im trying to go heavy on fruits, 3000 mcg of vit A (10,000 UI), 25 mcg of vit D and 3 pills of a good Omega 3-6-9 pill.

I think this is starting to be a good diet and im trying to go heavy on fruits. I think this time, I got a solid plan. Reading people that have been trying to recover from years is depressing. This is really having an impact on my psychology big time. I have already done some sacrifices but to be honest, there is no way out if I dont last 3 months atleast. First time i lasted 1 , now 2 but now atleast i got a good diet with me if I add some vit c as fruits. Also magnesium couldnt hurt obviously. While typing this, i feel the same damn symptoms (headaches,etc.).

Are you guys tired of trying to heal too, there is no way out eh. damnit i couldnt imagine now having a career on a computer or etc.Its ruining my social life, basically almost everything.

My question to you guys is, if you dont take a break from screens, you arent gonna see results. Even though some you guys have different diagnoses and taking break from a screen might not mean recovery.I think Dry eye did have a positive impact on me in the way that Im so tired of life that Im taking of being religious and doing things God has required us to do. I think life is short and yes as humans we commit sins and etc but we do have to do our best to please our Lord.

Keep going with it. Sound slike you are on a good regime.

One thing im doing- Cut out all grains, ANY GRAINS. And start probiotics if you are not.

That is what im doing now. Plus all the above supplemts.

yeah well i think the nutrition this time i got it well, i dont eat well enough thats why i take mainly vits (supplements). Its the recovery aspect thats the hardest but ive no choice this time, will try to be back mid april and this time im pretty sure i will be ok because atleast, yes it hurts when i look at tv or a screen for a bit of time but this doesnt prompt recovery. What prompts recovery is when im back on the cpu or tv for more then 1 hour a day, jesus this will be harder then the first time and also a wedding in february is planned which im obligated to go, the camera flashes will destroy my eyes.

I recommend you up your vit D especially in a Canadian winter. I have read that we need at least 1000 mcg but can really use as much as 5000 mcg. The RDA of Vit D is woefully low and most of us are deficient. When I lived in Canada I took 5000 mcg per day. Now I winter in the tropics so I don't need to I just go in the sun for 10 min per day minimum without sunscreen. Good luck with the diet changes if it doesn't help it cant hurt. Hang in there...cheers....F/G

Yes, I think regardless of any eye issues, if you live in a cold climate, supplementing with Vitamin D isn't a bad idea. And like F/G says, most of us in such climates are probably deficient in it.

The only thing I'd look out for if you take large amounts it signs/symtoms of vit. D toxicity. It's a fat soluble vitamin, so it's possible to take too much.

If I recall correctly, I'd read that you can take, say, 4000-5000 I.U daily for 2-3 mo. to build up your stores, but then ought to drop down to 2000 I.U. per day after that if you won't be monitoring your vit. D levels via bloodwork. So that's what I did, and I now take just 2000 I.U. per day (except in summer when I'm outdoors a lot).

Anyhow, these numbers aren't totally set in stone, they were just the recommendations I came across so something to keep in mind.

                25mcg Vitamin D3 = 1000 I.U. Vitamin D3 ... F/G wondering if you meant to say you took 5000 I.U per day?

About vit D: I live in a sunny country and we here are vit D deficient too. It is a matter of lifestyle: who can take 20 minutes of sun bath between 8 and 10 am?

About toxicity of vit D, what i've read is that vit D is toxic if the level in the blood is upper 100. A doctor and researcher that trats his multiple sclerosis patients with vit D says 10.000 UI anybody can take (and should take) daily, without monitoring. He says also that taking less than 5.000 UI daily will not take anybody from deficiency. Anyway, if you have high calcium levels, kidney stones etc. I think it will not hurt monitoring if you take high doses of vit D.

Good point - unless one is able to get out in the sun for long enough, even living in a sunny country won't help, will it!

As for the limits that can be taken safely without monitoring, it seems there isn't a 100% agreed upon consensus. It wouldn't surprise me if it turned out that 10000 I.U is safe for anyone to take, but it can't hurt to be cautious.

re: 5000 I.U. not doing anything, I suspect it would depend on just how deficient a person was to begin with too... I have no doubt that for some people, it wouldn't be nearly enough... trouble is, most of us are shooting in the dark, have no idea how deficient we are, so can only guess... and if we take too much, it could lead to toxicity. Sooo, depends on what a person is comfortable with I guess...

Interstingly, even people in India are getting deficient these days. It was on the news, people today were spending too much time indoor s sitting infront of computers, and with a darker skin you need more sun.
I started on 3000 to 5000 iu in November, and altough surrounded by sick people I havnt had one tiny bit of cold this neverending winter.

Me too! I used to get a reeeeeally bad cold virus at least a couple of times per year, and they'd be sooo bad that the over-the-counter cold medications didn't do a darn thing and I may have well of taken nothing for them - plus, each time I got sick it would last a good 2 weeks. But since taking the vitamin D religiously, I get sick less often, and when I do, it's really mild compared to before, and generally lasts only a few days. Amazing!

I know this could be totally just a coincidence, but I'm pretty excited about this change!
