  • Counting down my appointment..

Hi all, sorry to post again! I'm constantly sleeping to avoid dry eyes... I'm very nervous for my appointment at the 22nd of June as to the fact I may not get relief. Sclera lens are a last option for me according to my optician, I'm scared that nothing else I get treatment wise will work aka ikervis doxycycline sclera lenses and anything else... I'm counting it down like Christmas. 16 days (to the 21st). I'm so scared that nothing will take effect... I just want to be back to a more normal state for my eyes. Sorry just so nervous for my appointment.... I see how sclera help alot of people but scared it won't help me as I'm at breaking point. Everyday that goes by I count it down. Sorry for this post again. I just, I'm scared nothing will give me relief to get back on with my life...

Hey Epicjinx. Based on what you've mentioned you tried so far in your previous posts and your diagnosis so far, there is much more than just sclerals to try still. In fact, it's possible the specialist at the eye hospital will recommend you try a different treatment, before trying sclerals.

In the meantime, keep focusing on your diet. Someone posted the other day that drinking green tea with citrus (lemon is best, but other citrus is beneficial too) also worked for him more than anything else in last 8 years, like it did for me. So I am hopeful something like this or other diet changes/additions can also help you too, at least to some degree while you're waiting for your appointment. Something like diet could address the root problem, and is easy to try.

The 16 days will be here before you know it, hang tight!

Thanks hokucat I've been eating more fruit and drinking green tea/ honey and chamomile like anything. I'm just really desperate at this point, and my last option for me was that- sclera lens but I'm nervous nothing else will work. I'm trying to hang in there but I'm just highly nervous as my eyes are getting redder due to dryness. They make me feel healthy at least! But im not sure about dryness. I've written down everything I've tried for the specialist and will show them and written down my symptoms. Which isn't much but the dryness is quite a pain. I'm just desperate for some relief soon as I feel like I can't do much apart from sleep.

Adding the lemon, oranges, limes, grapefruit, a vitamin C supplement, or even orange juice might make the green tea work more for you. Studies show these fruits/juices with vitamin C "supercharge" the good stuff in the green tea. It wasn't until I added lemon juice to the green tea that I noticed any improvement to my eyes.

Yes, the dryness can be debilitating. As mentioned before, Genteal Severe Eye Gel was a lifesaver for me during those years my eyes were bone dry. It is different than other ointments or gels, which bothered my eyes.

Good you've written down everything you've tried and your symptoms to prepare for the specialist, sounds like you are as ready as possible to go. Also, wanted to tell you it was a good idea to bring the dry eye petition back in your post yesterday...there's a lot of new people in this forum who can sign it. Definitely a worthy cause.

I thought that it needs alot of signatures I've even posted it on a few dry eye videos online with the link provided and on patientslikeme just to get it going more as it has been slow with signatures and we need as many as possible. The quicker the better! Next time I make green tea I'll squeeze an orange in to it and see how I feel as opposed to eating oranges and drinking green tea. I've tried carbomer alot but it hasn't made a huge difference to my dry eye state. I think I ran out of it because I was using it so much.

I think eating oranges while drinking the tea is fine, probably getting more vitamin C as well as fiber that way.

Well I already did this lol! I've nearly ate them all whoops. Anyway green tea then bed for me, I'm going to start scoring off each day nearer for my appointment. I just seriously hope they can help me with my dryness issue and hope I can improve my oil quality to help my eyes.

Don't drink the green tea right before bed, it has caffeine (unless you are drinking decaf green tea). I would avoid drinking anything with caffeine at least 6 hours before going to bed. Instead drink your chamomile tea or sleepy time tea, it should help you relax and go to sleep.

I've been drinking green tea and chamomile through out the day mainly chamomile at night and sometimes green tea before bed. Using gel tears but makes no difference to the dryness. Despite taking fish oil... I'm so fed up at this point and scared that the opthamologist whatever prescribed won't work as nothing has so far... 2 weeks away and having no luck in finding hope for this disease.

You mentioned in another thread your mum is going with you to see the specialist at the eye hospital, right? Bring it up to the doctor with your mum in the room, that your condition is so debilitating you feel you cannot work or try to find a job until they help you find treatment(s) to reduce the severity of the symptoms.

Yes she is going to the eye hospital with me, but doesn't seem to understand how deabiliting this is. I will mention this then. It's bad enough I don't know how university will go never mind getting a job again. It's frustrating because of my oil gland issue is mild yet my eyes feel horribly so so dry and my eyes are itching too. I'm trying to be hopeful for my appointment but it's hard, I explained to my mum about the lenses but she isn't sure about them helping me. I sadly have one more day of college tomorrow just to check up to see if everything is finished I think.

Hello, I am new to this website and forum, but I am finding it both helpful and frightening. I had lasik surgery on one eye on 4/25. Had nothing but complications every since, including a scratched cornea, flap that took weeks to seal, three styes in the upper inner eyelid that were removed surgically, and the painful and annoying conditions of dry eye. When I was evaluated for the surgery I was told I had "borderline" dry eye. It didn't sound like anything to me. I had absolutely no symptoms. Now I realize how serious this all is. I have had three amnio membranes which have helped with my healing, but I continue to have some symptoms. Tomorrow I go to a new doctor to be evaluated for autologous serum drops. Anyway, I am intrigued by the green tea/lemon treatment and have just started giving it a try. I am drinking it cold, two 8 ounce glasses per day. Is this the correct approach? Thank you for all your help.

Hi norabo. Sorry to hear about what you've been going through since LASIK. Sounds like you are on the right track being evaluated for autologous serum tears...that has helped some people with healing of the surface of their eyes and repairing corneal nerve damage.

Besides myself there are three others I know of for whom the fresh lemon juice in green tea helped, although all of us had MGD and blepharitis, none of us had dry eye due to LASIK. However, it can't hurt to try it since it's natural and inexpensive, and studies have shown green tea and green tea with lemon/citrus may be beneficial to overall health and immune system functioning, as well as for the surface of the eyes.

Yes, I drink the lemon/tea 2x daily. I drink my tea warm, but cold should be fine too. I make it really strong by pushing the tea bag against the side of the cup with a spoon ~100 times until it's a dark green. The greener the tea, the more nutrients it has (vs. brownish green, which means it has been over processed). I add in the juice of 1/6 slice of a medium/large Meijer lemon, then drink it right away, because the longer it is exposed to air, the more the nutrients are compromised.

To help with the discomfort in the short term, you may want to get some eyeshields/goggles...many people like 7Eye and WileyX. Also night moisture goggles may also help. There are several available in this website's Dry Eye Shop.

In the end, if you still cannot find anything to help, you may want to consider scleral lenses. I wear mines 12+ hours a day, and it helps a lot.

I hope you find some comfort soon.
