Is dry eye being a fake disease a real stigma in this country?

Apparantly so. I don't normally watch boston legal but I happened to catch the last 30 minutes of it tonight.

Well believe it or not the hot shot prosecutor accused big bad pharmaceutical company of marketing drugs for diseases that don't exist. Among them was dry eye.

Now he seemed to have some good info including some about how pharmac. companies spend just as much money on marketing as they do on research and developement. But once he mentioned dry eye in that breath he certainly lost his creditability with me. In fact I got a little offended and am usually not the type to be so.

I know it is a fictional show and all but does america really feel this way? I find this especially amusing because I know some supposed experts who have made this mistake.
Maybe they were low on content though- that would explain it.

Which is it? Is it what you know or who you know? Or is it how well you convey what you know to who you know it to?
