  • Does anyone else's symptoms VARY DAILY?

Do your symptoms vary daily (interchange burning on one day for grittiness on the next day for soreness or pain on the next day)?

Or are your symptoms pretty much the same every day, it's just a question of when they come on?

Thanks in advance for the replies,
    Rose

I'm going to answer my own question. I did a search on the term "vary" and it looks like a lot of us suffer from this.

Since getting lower dissolvables my left eye is much better. But the ups and downs in the right eye can really stump me at times.

yes some days my eyes feel great and others they feel terrible no matter what i do. not really sure what it all depends on... maybe sleep, environment/humidity, etc. makes it difficult to determine what is making it worse

I had a set of dissolvables and really got little comfort. Doc put silicone permanents in 2 weeks ago in my lower ducts. I am now feeling really good about 95% of the time now, and seem to be improving more. I wish everyone could get the same comfort I am receiving, it is amazing how life changes once the discomfort is gone. I am crossing fingers hoping this may be it for me.

I seem to have at least three distinctly different modes which vary daily:

            1. Burning. Vision is good, but I feel like I just got a face full of pepper spray.

            2. Ointment. One or both eyes feels like I've just put a gob of vaseline in them. Vision will be good one moment, completely blurry the next. Tends to cause me to NOT blink enough, because the next blink my render me blind.

            3. Gravel. Painful rocks in the eye.

Doc says I have anterior blepharitis (after Lasik). I have permanent lower plugs. Just tried Azasite, but could not tolerate it for more than a week. It put me permanently in the burning mode. I'm not currently using Restasis, but I've tried it in the past. Again, more burning than relief, even after months of use.

It helps if you can identify patterns to see if theres a reason why your eyes feel a certain way on different days.
As dgreen said, humidity and sleep play important roles, as would any air passing over the eyes e.g. car vents, air con, etc, and the type and frequency of lubrication used on any given day.

I found that keeping a thorough log helpful in identifying the source of problems and helping them heal.

For example, just now I feel my eyes starting to burn, despite having lubricated just a few minutes ago, which I now know means there isnt enough humidity in this room.

Obviously its all dependent on your eyes and your conditions, but its worth a go...

              Good luck.

keeping a log is something that i really didn't think of.. and thats a good idea. it would help mark down whats going on when your eyes feel horrible and what is happening when they feel good. im going to start noting this

For me it can change daily.

On some days all my therapy doesnt seem to
work at all. Drops, rice baggy ect, and my eyes
                  blur and sometimes get sore.

But, since I'm doing the therapy, I've had fewer days
of bad one vs good ones.

The other day my company had a get together at a local
resaturant. The lighting was dim, as many are, and my eyes
got real dry there. I could barely see anything clearly,
so dryness affects my clarity on a bad day.

Sometimes night driving can be a challenge for me too.

Since I've been on mat leave for all of 2009, I've had a lot more control over my environment, and the amount and types of stress I put on my eyes.

I've noticed that when I've been really careful to keep all variables the same from day to day, my eyes plateau, and stay the same. For example, I might be limiting computer use to 2 hours per day, TV to 1 hour per day, reading the newspaper for 15 minutes max, staying home where humidity stays at 45%, cooking only with the slow cooker (stovetop cooking bugs my eyes), avoiding jobs where I end up concentrating too much to remember to blink lots etc.

When I try to decrease the stresses I put on my eyes, they improve.

Even something as small as watching an extra hour of TV one evening, or going without goggles (and using drops instead) for a 3 hour family gathering will cause my eyes to be worse the following day

Yes, my symptoms vary daily, even minute-to-minute. Thank you, LASIK surgeon!
