  • Oh my god I can't sleep I can't stand this right eye pain

It's out of control, my left is so much more manageable, there is no limit on the pain with the right one. I am nauseated with pain I dont know what to do with myself. I can't handle it like this much longer. I gotta try the things you guys use because my drops dont do anything. I even worry if any of them are making things worse. I cry all the time and that makes the pain much worse but i can;t stop.

Vicki, I'm really sorry you're in such a bad place right now.

Members... anybody remember that thread awhile back where people posted a bunch of their tips for getting pain under control during a bad flare-up? If anybody can find it and "ptt" it for Vicki that would be great.

Meantime a few thoughts for short-term relief:
    - Try not to overdue tears, gels or ointments.
    - Heat or cold therapy can help calm things down. Try a warm compress or a cold pack.
    - Saline rinses. Pick up some Unisol if you don't have it. (~$7.50 for 3x 4 oz. bottles at most drugstores.) Put a bottle in the fridge and when you're feeling really bad, douse your eyes generously to soothe them. Ideally you should throw away the bottle within days because it's the unpreserved puncture top type.
    - Talk to your GP, and/or get with a pain clinic. Pain is pain, whether it's in your eyes or your toes, and they may be able to help.
    - If nighttime is particularly bad, make sure your eyes are protected/covered at night. Anything from a soft eye mask ($3 or $4) to tranquileyes ($34 & up) should help at least somewhat.

      Hi Vicky

Vicki, when my pain is the most intense, I find that an icepack will cool it down. I usually sleep with one on my left eye at night. Sometimes I switch to a warm rice baggy for a change. I need one or the other on my eyes while I try and sleep. I have several of the blue gel packs and they are wonderful. Trouble is--you can't just go around with an icepack over your eye. I must say, though, I've become quite good at it.

PS. If you have not tried the drops from DEZ, you might want to give it a shot. You can use with Restasis. I just reordered 3 bottles of NutraTear as I'm out. Have been using the stuff for about 5 years like many of us.

        Vicki,

In this much pain, you might consider seeing a pain specialist or even just your regular physician. (Eye docs don't seem to understand pain very well.) There are oral pain meds that many of us have tried. Neurontin is one I used for a while. Some of these can actualy affect dry eye, but I never noticed anything.

        Best of luck to you.

Thanks for all your replies. I will have to try these things. Is there any drop that has the highest success rate or should I use all 3 DEZ products? there are several mentioned and i am not sure which is best to buy. i will find out specifically what kind of dry eye problem i have later today. all i know was i was told that it is not so much that i dont produce tears but i dont produce quality tears.
