  • dry eyes but not red

    Hello.

My eyes are very dry and painful but not red as long as I use plenty of eye drops. My iris in the right eye and its edges started hurting really bad today. It's painful to blink, with drops or without. But eyes look normal. Is there any point going to ophtalmologist? Or is constant pain to be expected with very dry eyes? I'm new to it and not sure how to navigate among the symptoms.

Ira I'm from Bristol as well, have you tried the Bristol Eye Hospital? You will probably end up seeing a junior doctor the first time who won't be that good which happened to me but I now have an appointment with Dr Jaycock who is very highly thought of in British ophthalmology circles. Though I do have to wait two months to see him! I would suggest going to see your local GP and get them to refer you to Bristol Eye Hospital and Dr Jaycock in particular as he specialises in corneal conditions(things like dry eye).

Thank you, Robster. I want to try pilocarpine first (I used it before and it helped with my dry mouth, not sure about eyes). I definitely need to be referred to Dr. Jaycock because I visited eye hospital for dry eyes and the Dr "didn't see anything wrong" and "couldn't help me". I don't think he was junior, either. Mid-late 40s. Thanks for you help. Do you mind me asking what was/is your health problem? Hope your appointment will be helpful. Would you let me know how it went?

My dry eye was caused by LASIK. I'll let you know how my appt goes but it's not for a while yet.
