  • What is causing my pain?

Can an infected tooth make dry eye pain worse? Is the tooth trouble or my eyes stirring up the sinuses? My right side of my face really hurts! I finally got into a dental specialist about a tooth(with no nerve in it) that has had toothache on and off (which two other dentists couldn't find any thing wrong). He announced that it had an abscess, prodded it a bit which stirred it up and then said to come back on 16 October as he wanted to do an op on it to save the tooth!
He gave antibiotic but said not to use it until a week before 16 Oct. I went back to my own dentist the next day and he gave me antibiotic to take straight away but this weekend has been hell with pain and there are no emergency dentists here! It seems to be one big combination of dry eye, sinus and toothache and dichlofenac(?) and panadol combined do not seem to work! Maybe it has been the tooth that has caused all that burning in the back of my nose for so long? Now all I can think is that I have got to get that tooth out! No dentists in action until Monday and then they are probably booked out! Dry eye does complicate everything!
Sorry I have to vent somewhere, but thought I would bring it up in case others have had this sort of trouble.
Here's to a lousy weekend - its going to be tough!

Sorry, Dot, you're having a hard time. I'm up very late and squinting my worst eye shut and can't read your whole post. I can see you are hurting and it involves teeth/tooth/dental problems.

I'll look in on this and read more carefully tomorrow, I need a bunch of drops and my tranquileyes.

So sorry you are having souch a rough time. The teeth, sinuses and eyes are all very close together. You need to treat one thing at a time to find out what is causing or contributing to what. The eye drops most certainly could cause nasal discomfort, I know that Patanol and Tobradex both do with me. Good luck!

        Re: Pain

        Dotanne,
If your pain stays on the right side...seems like it moves around...starts in the eye area, then feels like a toothache, and hurts like @#$%^%..It could be Trigeminal Neuralgia...Discuss this w/Doc...Good Luck !!!!!

Thanks all for your replies. I finally managed to get the tooth out last night - The dentist fitted me in after 5 pm thank goodness. He admitted that there was a lot of infection and it went into the sinus. I am sure all that infection made my eyes worse too. I am at last feeling that things are improving. It took 24 hours with antibiotics and pain killer for things to calm down. I was getting to feel that noone believed me that I was hurting bad! Or is that just a dry eye syndrome symptom. I am already used to eye Docs saying my eyes look fine!!! Though last time I will admit he did say he was glad I did come when the plug was rubbing my eye and creating havoc.
So if you have face pain, it is worth going to the dentist! Even if you have to keep going back and back.
Yeah Lucy - I sure know that feeling when I try to check DEZ in the evening. And I use lots of Nutratear trying to hang in there BUT it sure is heaven when I get my tranquil eyes on and my talking book going (and I fall asleep with the tape still going!).
Ziggy - that was a good description of the pain and it sort of went to my ear and down my neck and I felt like I was getting a temperature. I do think that nerve was involved so it will be interesting to see what happens over the next week. But I do feel some improvement tonight.
Cheers all! I am starting to perk up!
