  • Headaches

Hi, sorry if his post is in the wrong place. I've had some seriously strong headaches lately which i suspect may be due to my eyes and I'm wondering if anyone has had any similar experience?

I often have little headaches in my temples which i am positive are due to my vision but last week I woke up in the night with the worst headaches i have ever experienced. It emanated from my right temple and was restricted to the right side of my head, especially around my ear and jaw. There was also a strange numbness like after you've had an anesthetic injection at the dentist. It was much worse when i lay down so i didn't sleep for a couple of days .The pains became more sporadic and eventually went. I still have the little headaches due to vision though.

Without going into too much history, I've had dry eyes for a few years and eye strain for at least a year now. For the eye strain my opthamologist has given me a different prescription for my single vision lenses which I have been wearing full time for a couple of months now (before i only wore glasses for close work).

I have seen a doctor and will see a neurologist in a couple of weeks but was curious if my experience sounded familiar to anyone?

    thanks

It is not something I am familiar with, hopefully someone else may be able to shed some light for you based on their experiences.

My immediate reaction was to consult a DR but you have indicated that you are planning on this anything. Personally I think this is a good course of action and hope that they can shed some light on this for you.

    Regards

I am not a doctor and cannot diagnose, but have you been evaluated for a problem with your jaw joint? (TMJ). I have this myself and experience the symptoms that you describe. The night awakening with one sided headaches near the temple and pain in and around the ear and jaw are classic symptoms of a TMJ problem. You might want to consider a visit with your dentist for further evaluation. Not all dentists are trained to treat TMJ, so you might need to seek out someone who does. A night guard may help. As far as the relationship of this to DES is concerned, I have not been able to verify it.
Every day with DES is like a box of chocolates...You never know what you're going to get.

I found that squinting was causing my headaches - I ensure I relax my brow etc throughout the day and it definately seems to help me - good luck!
The magic gloop IS out there somewhere - right?

in case anyone reads this post and is curious. I found the cause of the headaches. It was an infected tooth. The headaches went away but a few weeks later i noticed that the gum above one of my molars on the right side was inflamed. Anyway, good old nhs whipped the tooth out for me.

One month ago i got exactly the same pain on the left side. I'd been having little pains like this for over a year. I'd thought it was due to an ear infection which i'd had as it was around temple and ear nut i saw an ENT specialist who said my ear was fine. The dentist said that it was extremely unlikely that my tooth was giving me pains around the temple. But slowly i started to realise the connection between the tooth and the pains as the tooth was very sensitive to cold. Turned out there was a dead nerve in the tooth. Incidentally, and this may make no sense, but i'm sure of this, every time I took Erythamycin (which I'd taken for the ear infection and the other tooth!) the pain in the left temple got worse. On the last occasion it was unbearable.

I got root canal in the tooth on the sensitive left and the pain went away.
