  • surgery for pain?

Do you guys think somehow doctors could like cut the nerves in our eyes to stop the pain? It's probably a really stupid question, but the reason were in pain is because of the nerves, so if you sever them, that should fix the pain, but of course the question is "will it affect feeling in other parts of the body"?

    TT -

Sorry to read this post as I interpret that you are having some significant pain issues to be asking this question.

I certainly do not know of any such surgery. "Cutting nerves" such as with Lasik or trauma seems to cause the problems that we face in the first place. Cutting corneal nerves (which are generally what hurt) produces anesthetic corneas that then do not provide accurate feedback to the lacrimal mechanism and hence tears are not produced appropriately. In general, cutting nerves leads to nerve dysfunction, neuropathy and pain. I have nerves in my hand cut from an accident and they hurt.

I hope that you feel better.
