Thanks, Gaye for the tip (in the Welcome Forum) on Avon wash-off waterproof mascara. I've odered it and can't wait to give it a try. I miss wearing mascara . Even if I can't wear it everyday maybe I'll be able to for special occasions. It's nice to know that it works for you and that it won't take a power washer to get it off.

You mean you still have eyelashes? I think I have about 1/10 of my pre-lasik amount. They are hard to see, so hard to see that I'd not even bother trying mascara.

I have to agree with Lucy. I have lost so many of my eyelashes since the procedure that I stopped wearing makeup for a long time. I tried to wear mascara once a couple of weeks ago, but there were so few lashes (especially on the bottom) I looked like a freak!
The top ones look like they are starting to grow back some (which my doctor assured me they would), but the bottom are still pretty sparse!

wow! I didn't know more people than me lost eyelashes. I have tons and tons of eyelashes (which is a good and bad thing for me), but recently I have been losing eyelashes like crazy and many of them have been slipping in my eye, which i find very irritating.

Another product that wasn't mentioned is Almay for mascara or eyeshadow. I use it VERY rarely, because it still does irritate my eyes, but it is much better than many other brands of eye makeup because it is specifically advertised as hypo-allergenic. (Dry eye and allergies have never been a good mix for me, so this helps.) Anyways, just another possibility for eye makeup.

          lovin' it!

I received my Avon wash-off waterproof mascara last Friday. I also ordered the eyeliner. I have worn both EVERY SINGLE day since and I love both products so far. No ill effects whatsoever! Both the mascara and eyeliner have stayed in place all day even through 5-6 daily applications of drops. The mascara does wash off with soap and water (a little flaking but I'm not about to complain).

It's a small triumph and total vanity on my part but it makes me feel good to see my eyelashes again after 4.5 years and to go out into the world in full war paint .

Thank you very much for the tip, Gaye.

            To Cindy re:Avon Mascara

I am really glad you like the Avon mascara. I have had such good luck with it with no problems either. Personally, I haven't tried the eyeliner, but now I will.

I'm going to try it. Been without eye makeup for a while now. You loose pride after a while just not to cause more problems.

I was going to order the mascara, now I will order the eyeliner, too. WOW! This will be a real treat! I had found an eye pencil by Almay (the Naturalist or something like that) that I really liked, but it would wear off as the day wore on. But that was really a lift to be able to wear it.
                Thanks, ladies!

                  Avon mascara

I can't wait to try it! I have used so many different brands with no luck. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this will be the one that I can tolerate.

I love makeup and it sucks not being able to wear what I want.

I wear eyeshadow, no mascara or liner. I use a dark eye shadow to line my upper lid for special occasions. I have had no reaction to any makeup. I also wear a bronzing blush to add color to my face.

Whats worse for me is the terrible dark grey circles under my eyes. I'm extremely puffy and dark. It's aged me a good 10 years (I'm 41). I have makeup I wear that helps, but it still looks bad. I look extremely tired and ill. People will ask me if I feel ok, because my eyes look so bad.

Throw the weight gain from Neurontin into the mix and I'm a mess.

Thanks for the girl talk, nobody else understands.

                      Make-up woes

Oh grrrrl, I SO understand the make-up drama! I look at those $600 mink eyelashes that Jennifer Lopez wears and the first word that pops into my head is "*****." I know, not nice but we're allowed to rant a little bit here, right???

RE: you under-eye circles--have you been to a dermatologist or anyone that can recommend anything? My daughter went to her doctor and she recommended some rather odd colored concealers and it helped her. I keep thinking about an Oprah show where these make-up specialists helped women with burns on their faces and they looked great. Of course, everyone aways looks great on that show. Maybe we all need our own personal lighting experts to follow us around all day? And get insurance to pay for it, too!

                      Hang in there,
                      Andrea

I know someone who had some minor out patient surgery to handle those under eye circles. I know....surgery.....but I am just throwing it out there, not necessarily recommending it.
The scars are under the eyelashes. It did make a tremendous difference. I don't know why she had those circles....maybe just hereditary. Otherwise she was perfectly healthy.

I came across the posts again tonight, and I guess I just skimmed them before, but I can't believe I didn't pay more attention to them!! I'm DEFINATELY going to look into buying the mascara and eyeliner y'all are recommending! Being a typical 18 year old girl, I hate having my eyes feel naked all the time and I dream of the days when I used to be able to wear eye makeup.... thank you to all the people who have good things to say about the products.

As for the dark circles- I'm really curious to hear more about this surgery thing- if no one replies on here I might bring it up and post it as a new topic. Dark under eye circles run in my family big time, but naturally, because of my problems with dry eye and allergies, I've been branded w/ them the most. I can't really cover them up because under eye concealer irritates my eyes too much. I'm seriously interested in hearing more about this surgery thing to get rid of dark circles. I've had eye surgeries before, so one more eye sugery would be no big deal to me. Anyways, please reply!

I believe this is called vanity, and the procedure is likely an undereye "lift." You mention stitches and that must mean cutting under the lashes. Amy, while this may have worked for someone else, I'm sure they were older than 18. If you think your eyes are bad now, you should not be messing with them surgically. Don't even think about it.

I'm being the devil's advocate here, a role I love playing. Many people on this board had "eye surgery" called LASIK, perhaps for some it's a little vanity. Notice I said SOME. But the end result is the same.......dry eyes.
We know that you don't want to jeopardize your eyes even becoming worse, so please don't look into anything that involves curring your eyes.

Amy, some people wear fashion glasses and they look good, minimize any dark circles and are inexpensive. I have some with a slight tint. I'd wear them all the time, except I need RX in my lens.

Notice that Jcorbett did not recommend this, just mentioned someone that had the surgery. I'm sure they were much older than you and were just having a few "nips and tucks."

                            Lucy

                              dark circles

I am sure this was cosmetic surgery. I can't tell you more about it, you would have to visit a plastic surgeon or do some research on the internet. I, too, would be skeptical about surgery. But this woman was not older, she was around 30. She just had dark circles under her eyes. I know it was outpatient, she was awake during the whole thing, and fairly inexpensive, and it did make a big difference.
Sorry I can't tell you anymore.
