  • eye drops from blood serum

I read an article by the lady that created Biotears that says an experimental study was done on the effects of using a persons own blood serum (red blood cells removed--for no cloting) as an eye drop for dry eyes and the effects were very positive for relief. I looked into this but could not find a lab willing to remove the red blood cells to create clear serum from my blood so I gave up on the idea. Anyone know about this? Robert

    Robert,

Many users here have tried it. Check out this forum (search on serum or scan the thread titles). Also for some medical references see our entry on autologous serum - I haven't updated it in a long time but there are several references there - many studies have been done. Amongst people I know personally, results have been mixed, but it's clear that some people are helped by it.

I think that with serum drops, the challenge is finding a physician who's used this treatment method. If they have, and they're willing to try it with you, then finding a lab is moot as they'll already have someone they're working with.

May I ask what other drops you've tried? I assume you've worked through most of the over-the-counter lubricants?

      Serum drops

Hello Robert. Funny you should talk about this. I just returned from a consultation with a specialist today. He told me that if the steps of treatment we are going to try fail in the next 3-4 months he is referring me to his colleague who does this. I am not sure where you are located. This is the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Oh. US. He said they have seen promising results with this.
      Good luck with your search.

I've always wondered this, even though I think I know the answer. Are drops made out of plasma the same thing y'all are talking about??
