  • Protection for swimming

    Hi there!
We are going to fly to Spain in 6 weeks for a relaxing vacation. Normally, I don't swim, but in my holidays I love doing some sports, especially swimming.
What goggles are best for swimming? I have MEGs, are they good enough for this, if I don't dive?
Of course, I can get swimming goggles, but first, I hate swimming goggles (they are so uncomfortable...) and second I have a high myopia and would have to get the swimming goggles with high prescription. My MEGs already have the needed prescription. So do you think, the MEGs can protect my eyes in a swimming pool?
I don't dive, I just swim (like an old lady ;-))

No MEGS will not protect your eyes in a swimming pool. I have seen MEGS frame and unless yours is something different, it won't work--unless you don't go under water or very deep or near anyone (kids) splashing.

Prior to my Lasik, I was ablt to buy off the shelf a -7 or-8 myopic swimming goggle. I went to an optical shop that sells regular glasses. I have seen them since. You may want to do a search on google.

These are real SWIM GOGGLES and will fit and feel like swim goggles. If you're really myopic, they are very much worth the investment. Just know though that you won't be able to use these for anything else. Lucy

P.S. SUSIE ACTUALLY WEARING YOUR MEGS IN A POOL OR SALT WATER MIGHT CAUSE THEM DAMAGE. DON'T TRY IT.

      Found a good store

      hey Lucy,
thank you very much for your answer.
you're right, MEGs aren't the right thing for swimming. I found a very good German online store where you can get perscription swimming goggles between -1 and -10 dioptires
And the best is: you have to pay only 10 Euro more for the prescription. That's fair.
I'm going to buy these goggles.

Susie, I think you will enjoy having these prescription swim goggles. I was -10 and I couldn't recognize the person standing next to me. After I found the goggles, it was really a good thing--I could actually see who I was with.

Unfortunately, I had Lasik and can see who I am with, but I always wear swim goggles when I'm in a pool. I don't want to chance gettin an infection in my eyes, as they are very fragile. Hope you enjoy your trip. Lucy
