  • Panoptyx goggles/glasses

Sierra Trading Post has a few styles of glasses on sale right now. I ordered the Cyclone style. I already have one pair and they fit great. I'm female, small face with large eyes. I saved about $80.00 by ordering them from this sale. These have the usual foam liner to keep the humidity in. All in all a great bargain for me. I checked with Rebecca before I posted this.

This is a really good deal. FYI, Chubasco, Chinook, Viento and Cyclone are the four framestyles that have the foam (orbital seal) incorporated in the frame rather than in the removeable gasket. Panoptx stopped making them in anything except matte black awhile back so some retailers are clearing out stock of the other colors... making for some great deals!!

Thanks for the link. These are not the wrap around. Is it the wrap around that is best to use or do these works as well too? I wonder too if my own lenses can be added? My RX is high at -5 diopters and I read somewhere that some frames cant handle that. I thinkI need glasses that shield wind away, not so much sunglasses since it is not sunny out now and I want to be able to see as good as possible so I want just regular lenses.

        Some can, some can't

        Vicki,
I think these are actually superior to wrap-a-rounds. These have an inner seal of foam that is between your face and the glasses. There are Panoptxy that will take a prescription but they have to be ordered directly from Panoptyx because of that seal. (unless someone else has found another place where this can be done cause I'm not sure). These particular frames come from a sports supply place and they are not offering to put prescription lens in. These were only offered as a pair of sunglasses. As to whether or not a lens could be put in these by your local eyeglass supplier, I don't really know.

If it was me, I'd find a local optical supplier that carries the Panoptyx glasses and choose the frame that best fits my face and that would hold my prescription before investing money in a pair that might not work. (unless you just want sunglasses)

I second what Silverlady said. With an RX of -5, it is questionable if any goggles are suitable. I say it's a "question you need to ask." I have Panoptx Sirocco with one lens -4.3 and the other -.5 or so and it gives a bubble or fishbowl effect.

In my particularly weird case, the goggles work for me as they are only part of my eyewear repertoire and if I get tired of the goggles or they make me dizzy, I have other things to use for my correction.

You may be unable to get a goggle with will accommodate your prescription, but knowing this could be a problem could save you big bucks.

I ordered one pair of white Viento's and got them today. I saved $85 off retail. Without RX, I'll probably just wear these sunglasses around the house bumping into things. Or if I'm wearing my contacts, they'll work out great. I just have to get to Boston first. It's a deal that is too good for ME to pass up even with my weird wearing patterns. Excellent service from Sierra.

              New sale catalog today

Looks like Sierra Trading Post has 3 more styles of the Panoptyx goggles on sale. Same conditions as before. I've linked you to one page which has two of the styles on it and there is one additional style on another page. http://www.sierratradingpost.com/d/4...es.html?page=6

I really have no affiliation with this company. My husband gets the catalogs all the time and I order my panoptyx from them too. Just like to share a good deal.

                now's the time

My advice, snap them up while they last, folks. POLARIZED Panoptx for ~$60? It's not gonna get any better than that.

There are other options. Browse THIS PAGE, and/or contact some of the sources referenced.

There may be a suitable alternative for you, including "press-on lenses" (referenced on the linked page) that might allow you to 'convert' some types of moisture glasses/goggles, to work with your prescription.

need Panoptyx with Rx, or is MEG better?

                        Dear Rebecca,
I met you at the Dry Eye Conference yesterday (a great day). I talked to you briefly about the Panoptyx glasses but then got involved in the lectures going on. I would need them with a Rx...does one purhase them online, then have a/any (?) optician fill the Rx, or what? Do you think Panoptyx is preferable to the MEG? With that, too, I had no time to really investigate yesterday but I took the flyer. I'm sure I could benefit from one of the two to bring myself more relief than I am getting, but I do need mine with Rx. Any guidance is much appreciated!
                        Thanks...

                          ordered Panoptyx

I just ordered a pair of Panoptyx (Churada style) & am keeping my fingers crossed. First, it was hard to find them near where I live but, when I did, the optician (in the doctor's office in Sherman Oaks, CA) was knowledgable & helpful. I did go the whole 9 yards & order them with progressive, photochromic, high index lenses at a hefty price, so wish me luck! It's kind of the "last straw" for me, except for scleral lenses, since heat therapy, 4 plugs, Restasis, antibiotic ointment, endless drops, etc. have not done it. I admit that I've been so so with the environmental & diet recommendations & have been too timid to try steroids. Anyway, now into my 5th year of this misery with severe evaporative lid disesase, I hope the Panoptyx will at least help me near A/C vents, in wind, chilling air, etc. Any responses of encouragement will be appreciated!
Thanks for your resources to help me find this dealer, Rebecca...:-)

                            Susan,

Not knowing your story...and assuming the Churadas fit....I have a pair of Panoptx Churadas that seal completely, and they've been great. We put black electrical tape over the vents, and they completely keep out breezes/wind. I can wear them biking. (I can go biking!)

Before I bought them, it was a hardship for me to leave the house. My eyes were completely vulnerable to any ceiling fans, drafts, wind, etc. With these glasses, I can now take walks, ride my bike, *go places* without my eyes totally drying out.

I really hope these fit and that they help you as much as they've helped me! Good luck & let us know how they work out!
                            Teri
