  • Doggles

Hope this link works. Just saw this tonight. Not sure if they are new or not. Not sure if I would want to be seen wearing them. But if you go to Deluth Trading and search for Doggles they should come up. Price seems good. Wish I had them when my eyes were at their worst. I would have worn anything that might have worked. I am actually getting a pair just to check them out for work.

It's good to know these exist in case my dog ends up with dry eye .

Our vet recommended them to us about a year ago when our shiz tzu was having eye problems. Of course I was fished into buying a pair. The dog refused to wear them. Our teenagers did get a good laugh out of them though so I guess it was worth the $$$. (apparently they are good for dogs who go boating alot--we are not of the "Yaught-y" or "speed boat" set, oh well)

animals share our suffering - Doggles are great

Doggles have worked wonders for the many dogs who would otherwise experience terrible corneal injuries, often due to contexts they're placed in involuntarily. . .Doggles are also used to slow down cataract development, in the breeds who have a tendency to develop these while young. . .

In England, it is outright illegal for dogs to be transported on the open flatbeds of pick-up trucks, but here, this very unsafe and unkind practice still pevails, and the company that makes Doggles strikes me as right on, when they flag that the practice tends to cause eye injury. . .

On a related front, dogs were the first population ever to be treated seriously for Keratoconjunctivitis sicca, and an ointment version of cyclosporine has been available for dogs for at least 10 years, now. . .

I don't like to focus on the fact that dogs have been used extensively in ocular surface disease research, because this might inadvertently indicate that it is fair to use them for our benefit in this way. . .but dogs have served, albeit involuntarily, in this way, and very much to our benefit. . .(Rabbits, of course, are the prime test "models" for surface irritation diseases). .
          .
Anyway, guys. . .dogs do suffer lots from ocular surface disorders, and it takes nothing away from our cause to be respectful of their plight. . .Doggles are brilliant and well-intentioned. . .I only wish more of the dogs who need them found them easy to wear. . .

If I seem a little strident, please be patient with me. . .I spent over 20 years as an animal rights lawyer, in connection with which I witnessed and documented more animal suffering than most people could ever conceive to exist. . .I've noticed so often that animals suffering the same diseases we get can be hugely stoic. . .certainly moreso than I am. . .From time to time, I just have to get on the soapbox for these precious Earthlings. . .

Doggles are the best. My puppy just loves them. Here is a not so great pic! (It's hard to get a 10 month old to sit still for anything!)
