  • Cocoons or Rudy Project sunglasses

    Hi,

I have an extremely high prescription (-13.00 in my right eye) and I need sunglasses that provide protection but don't look like sunglasses for cataract patients. I have been told that Rudy Project sunglasses were good and could work for my prescription, but they are not cheap. I have also found Cocoons on the internet. I was wondering if anyone has tried either one of these items and how they like them. I wonder if the Cocoons would be too heavy on top of already heavy glasses and how they would work for blocking drafts. Same for the Rudy Project glasses.

Thanks for your help in advance!

I was sent three samples of sunglasses for this purpose awhile back... keep meaning to follow up on them. Here's the rundown:

Cocoon SlimLine. They are lightweight, fit me well and do a good job blocking drafts. The particular frame I have does not work over my glasses AT ALL even though my glasses are a very slim frame. It's something about the earpieces that's just not compatible for some reason - it pushes the sunglass frame way too far out in front of my face. Different sunglass frame, different glasses or different face might well work better....

LiveEyeWear (not sure of model... it says E904G 9): I just tried my pair of these over my glasses. It fits snugger than the Cocoon over this frame but is not as comfortable on me. Nice looking tho.

My FAVORITE in an unlined sunglass is the LiveEyeWear VISTANA. I've been wearing this one everywhere... without glasses underneath though. I just tried it with glasses underneath and I think it's pretty reasonable. Perfectly comfortable, not too heavy, and the sunglass is still snug enough to give some decent draft protection.

In your shoes, I would probably still go for a Cocoon though... I really like those and had a closer look at some more models a couple of weeks ago at a conference exhibit hall. They are light weight enough to work well with glasses. Is there any way you can get to a local dealer to try out a few options?

Don't know anything about Rudy Project, sorry...
