  • Onion goggles and a question...

Hi, everyone! I am thinking of ordering some onion goggles for TV and computer time. I currently wear my panoptx sunglasses for this purpose and would like something clear. My question is about the colors. Do all three have the green on the inside? From the pics it looks like the black and white both have green in them, but I wasn't sure about the pink. I am leaning toward white but not if it has a lime green ring around the eyes, LOL!

My other question is in regards to attending my 10 year class reunion this weekend. I am a bit anxious of course and wanted to know if there is any harm in using the redness relieving drops for just the one night. I want to make sure I don't take several steps back because I have been struggling lately. I haven't been very regular with my Restasis and I think it must have been helping me. I was kind of hoping it wouldn't make a difference and I could just stop using them, but unfortunately (or fortunately??) I think they do make a difference- they just don't make me feel as good as I would like.

Nope - the black and white have green, but the pink has white.

I've never used a redness reliever personally so I don't have any comments to make about how much temporary setback you might expect. But it seems to me that this is exactly what redness relievers are for: the reunion, the wedding, the Christmas pictures....

Thank you for replying, Rebecca! I think I will take my chances with the redness reliever. Surely it can't be that bad and I won't have to explain about my dry eye saga all night!

I still can't decide about the onion goggles though. I think I am hoping I can not look like a total dork wearing them. I don't know if that is truly possible though!

I have used a redness reliever on very seldom occasions when I want to feel "normal".

I just make sure I drink twice as much water as I normally do - I'd put a camel to shame on a good day with the amount of water I drink.

I normally rinse with normal saline or a Theratears vial in both eyes before I go to bed just to make sure that they are hydrated, etc.

I have only done it a few times and I since discovered that they were preserved with BAK - double whammy - oh well, sometimes we just have to do what we have to do, it is a struggle dealing with DES on its own without having to sacrifice every other comfort in life.

        Warm regards

        Ian

          Onion goggles help dry-eyes?

Hi, I'm new here. I looked up onion goggles on a search engine, after reading posts here pertaining to them helping with tv/computer time. But the results I came up with were that they only help protect the eyes from strong fumes and possibly the air from an overhead fan. Do onion goggles actually help protect the eyes from tv watching and computer time?

Its more about creating a "shell" around your eyes to protect it against moving air from the outside world. Also the heat from your body humidifies the air some that is inside that "shell". It makes a better environment for your eyes when they don't blink as much such as tv/computer time.

another question on Onion Goggles for computer/tv use

Thanks Bassfan, for your reply about Onion Goggles creating a shell around the eyes to insulate them and hold in moisture.

Does anyone know if Onion Goggles (or any other type of goggles, for that matter) would fit well over regular eyeglasses? If so, this might be a great discovery for me.

Computer use seems to cause more dryness in my eyes than anything else, and I spend a lot of time at the computer. So anything that can protect my dry eyes while sitting at the computer would be a miracle cure for me

Solar Shields has a clear fitover

If the onion goggles are too small to be used over other glasses, (and I believe they are), you may want to consider a nice product by Solar Shield, called Square Lites-Clear. . .These are available through Ocusoft online, and expressly designed for wear over glasses. Then, of course, please see this site's Yellow Pages for references to a whole range of goggle-style Eyewear items, some of which fit over glasses. . .Some time soon, we hope, "micro-environment" glasses into which one will be able to place Rx lenses will become available. Dr. Richard Yee of Texas is currently awaiting a patent ruling, I believe, on these. They are described as useful in protecting the eyes during computer use, particularly, but will have wider applications.

Onion goggles don't fit over glasses. The only foam-lined ones I'm aware of that do are the Guard-Dogs Evador I and Evador II (couple of people here have tried those I believe). Otherwise your best bet is Rozjen's advice.

At the computer... multiple strategies at once may be needed to extend computer time, including

                  - glare filter or change of monitor type
                  - remember to blink more
                  - find a lubricant that works well for you and use it as needed (for me it's nutratear)
                  - take breaks - including brief times when you keep your eyes completely closed
                  - use a cool or warm compress periodically

You can find the product on this page:
                      http://www.ocusoft.com/PatientCat/sunglasses.htm

I WISH they made the more fashionable-looking oval fit-overs with a clear lens!

So glad you found URL for Solar Shield Lites, BUT

So sorry I forgot to provide the needed URL for ordering those Solar Shield Lites. . .MOST important, though: what that shopping site, at Ocusoft, displays, is NOT what you get when you order the clear lenses: In fact, the glasses with clear lenses comes with very pretty frosty/white frames, providing a VERY different look from those heavy, dark fitovers shown in the photo. . .So sorry I forgot to mention that a bit earlier. . .Now the clear/white fitovers are not delicate. .like onion goggles, but they may be functional and not terribly funny-looking. . .

Are Solar Shield Square Lites really moisture chambers?

I checked out these glasses which Rojzen mentioned and Calli provided the link for. Thanks ladies, these might work for me since they will fit over my prescription eyeglasses! Plus they are inexpensive at $10 each plus $5 shipping. The clear lenses with the white frame (even though they don't show the white) would probably look more normal for office use than the dark goggle type of fit overs.

However, it didn't look to me like Ocusoft makes any claim about them being sealed on the sides, or moisture-chamber like. Does anyone know if they are? Thanks for everyone's help here. This discussion group has been a wonderful discovery for me

Solar Shield lites not fully sealed, but quite excellent in coverage

Hi, Lori -- I just tried my pair on again, and I would say that the seal produced is not fully comparable to that of a moisture chamber, but that the top and side coverage will be excellent so long as your glasses are small enough not to make the over-fitting glasses stick out too far from the face. .. When I wear the Shields with my smallest eyeglasses, I even get good coverage on the bottom of the frame. Air blowing from behind you may be able to get under the glasses, but anything coming from the front or sides should be shielded successfully. . .Not to mention that at $10 plus shipping, these are definitely worth a try. . .I'll look forward to your update on how these go. . .

one more question on SolarShield Square Lites

Thanks Rojzen for the additional info on these glasses. One more question to Rojzen or anyone else who might know - are the SolarShield Square Lites tight enough for a small face? My face is small for an adult female. From the picture on the Ocusoft website, the Square Lites look rather large.

I tried calling Ocusoft to ask this question, but they are closed on weekends. I will try them on Monday.
