Moisture Chamber Glasses

Hi,

I just got my moisture chamber glasses from Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Miami, FL. I just want to thank Rojzen for the information kindly provided.
Fitting procedure takes about 2 hrs and the cost is around 300$. It makes a difference for my high evaporation rate, especially in harsh conditions.
The fitting procedure is a simple one, and I truly believe it can be done by most opticians. Eagle Vision plastic can be bought online. I will post a link in the future.

Wow, George! So excited to learn that you are actually wearing the chambers now! I believe that there is nothing that can compare to the steady relief one gets from wearing these 24/7...Did Angel do a good job of fitting the chambers? and is the material that soft, pliable vinyl from Eagle Vision? Long ago, Angel made me a pair with rigid plastic. . It was beautiful, but not as comfortable as the soft plastic. . .

question to George about moisture chamber glasses

Congratulations on your new glasses Was $300 the total cost for the glasses plus the Eagle Vision moisture chambers? Or was that just the cost of adding the moisture chambers to existing glasses?

I wear this type of moisture chamber glasses now. I found a NZ supplier of the soft plastic/vinyl from Eagle Vision (about $100) by emailing Eagle Vision (Googled to find out contact) and took it to my optician who painstakingly put it in a new pair of glasses. (Not an easy task) They look far more normal especially in the evening. A friend commented the other night that I had a bit of cellotape on my face. She hadn't noticed the shields for quite a few weeks! I have enough plastic to do quite a few more sets of glasses - will last a lifetime. Anyone in NZ want to share? However it was well worth the expense for the protection and comfort. I don't think they charged me much more than the price of a prescription pair of glasses.
The dry eye specialist I saw last week was quite impressed. I was not able to use my old glasses because they were the wrong sort of frame.

Hi,

The 300$ was only the fitting with Moisture Chamber. I brought my own frame and they made the lenses too. About the lenses they are very expensive. I would say outrageous....I paid 350$ for high index polycarbonate lenses. The lenses cost at WALMART 140-150$ at a higher quality(NIKON, ZEISS) and index. They can be also bought online at a high quality for about 60-80$.

I am not wearing them 24/7 yet. The humidity is about 80% in AL and I tear when I wear them for long time.

Angel used a not very soft plastic but he did a good job. Next time I'll do all on my own. Trimming is the easiest part of fitting.

This is very impressive. Have you talked to your optician before he did the MCG?
Was yours the first MCG he made?
It is very good he did not charge you more....How long was the fitting ?

I changed to this optician because she specialised in dry eye and a friend recommended them. She used pf drops and gave me a lot of help with how to do massages etc. I had read about the mcgs and showed them the vinyl stuff and her father (it is a family business) actually put them together. I had to wait for my new glasses to come and then we had a couple of fittings. I went shopping while he put them together after the first fitting and then a final touch up when I came back. I think it was the first time he had done it - I'm not sure - but they are very dry eye friendly small family company. Originally from Europe.
