Two weeks ago, I flew to California - a 6-hour flight each way. It was a non-issue for my eyes in both directions. The only thing I'd recommend is turning off the air-blower over your head. You don't need air blowing on your face. Other than that, I just used my regular drops (Refresh Plus Sensitive). Tossed the little vials in the seat pocket when I was done with 'em.

Smithy, I get the sense that you may simply be a nervous flyer rather than that you truly have a problem with your eyes drying out on planes. And keep in mind that STRESS (the stress from being afraid of flying) is a major factor in dry eyes! So just stop worrying and that'll probably make everything fine.

By the way, SkyGoddess, I LOVE your suggestion about putting ice in the airsick bags and keeping the eye drops in there.

Are sick bags in the US sponsored by a photo developing company. Here they used to double as a bag to send away your happy film snaps from holidays - gee I am showing my age now (does anyone still even have a film camera).

I can just see some photo developing company getting some eye drops and watter in the post wondering what on earth it is all about.

      Still laughing at the idea.

I am doing yet another long haul to visit my folks in Australia on Monday.

Ian - it's an airsick bag...the photo people could find far worse in there than eye drop vials, LOL!

I am back and in one peice!

            Hiya

I am back from my trip to North Carolina - two flights 8 hours each way - and no problems to report - thanks to the tips from this site.

I extra lubed with Severe Dry Eye gel (Genteal) - which felt very very protective, and I kept my eyes closed for approx 80% of each flight. May not be very sociable, but it was worth it to me not to have the holiday ruined with inflamed eyeballs !

All in all my eyes are slowly improving now, only requiring gel two/three times a day, and they have become more tolerable to alcohol - They used to go bright red after one beverage, but I had a few (or 6!) before hols and they were no redder than the normal person having a tipple. Still dont know what caused my eye dryness beginning in June of this year.

Whilst in the US i purchased 4 tubes of gels, by different manufacturers to try out.

            Bye for now
            Karen
