  • Would glasses help?

    Hey everyone

I suffer from a mysterious red-eye condition, which sounds similar to a lot of the people on here, though no doctors can seem to work out quite what it is, and most drops I get dont seem to help.

One major trigger for me is wind blowing in my eyes, and dust, and stuff like that. For instance if I ride my bike for a bit, afterwards, my eyes will be quite bloodshot.

So I was wondering if anyone knows whether a pair of spectacles might help with this? Does anyone wear eyeglasses and see an improvement when they do?

I am just talking regular glasses, not any special dry eye specific ones.

Also as a note, I have 20/20 vision and dont wear contacts, Im just curious to know if wearing glasses might help people's eyes out a bit (what with stopping a bit of wind etc.) cause I would gladly slap on a pair of zero-power glasses over having red eyes all day long.

    Thanks!

    Hello hamkins,

It is possible some semi-wrap clear sport glasses would help. Before I had LASIK, that was sufficient protection for me when skiing.

Glasses with foam gaskets will help even more.

    Good luck,

    Lynne

I would highly suggest you look into Synergeyes contacts. I cannot bear wind to hit my eyes or even moving air, at all. Glasses do not relieve this at all for me. The contacts are designed to hold moisture directly to the eye and because while the skirt is soft contact, the center is hard and it really does keep the moisture on the eye while the contact protects from air. I cannot bear to be without mine on for more than a short time at a time because the air hitting my eye is too distressing. With the Synergeyes I am 95% comfortable all of the time that they are on the eye. I was able to go back to daily morning runs, even on a breezy day and can also go for a bike ride once again!

        hamkins,

While I would agree ordinary plano eyeglasses is not a bad idea for any dry eye patient to use during normal daily activity, I doubt they would be of much use on a bike or in wind. I do in fact have a pair of plano glasses I've used in grocery stores, etc.

Unfortunately for me, these would be useless on my bike or during any real activity outside. For these situations I opt for my trusty Panoptx goggles. This windless eyewear helped make my life livable again, and prevents further irritation of my very sensitive eyes.

You would probably be very satisfied if you gave such eyewear a try. I know they are expensive and look a bit chunky, but for me it's worth it.

I found that wrap around sunglasses give quite a bit of protection.
