Adidas Climacool Goggles

I have been looking for moisture chamber glasses for some time now... it's been difficult b/c my Rx is so high (-9.0)... which rules out the Panoptx and wileys.

I have found the Adidas Elevation Climacool which accepts a Rx insert. However, I have been unable to get my hands on any yet so can't tell much about the seal, etc. Has anyone tried or seen these? If so, how tight is the seal around the eyes? How much protection do they provide relative to panoptx? The goggles can be seen here:

These glasses are very versatile: the exterior lens are cheap and can be easily interchanged. So it would be possible to have a clear lens for indoors and dark lens for outdoors. Also, the foam padding can be removed.

I looked at the goggles at the website. I looked for prescription strength they would allow because you have such a high RX. (I was -9.5 prior to Lasik and have an idea how thick this is.)

I could only find where they would go to a -6 on some styles. You might want to more carefully check out the website. The goggles all looked very suitable as wraparound styles, but this is really hard to get in a high RX. I have Panoptx goggles in which one eye is about a -4.0 and this is ok, but not ideal. It has a "fishbowl effect" but I can accommodate it. Minus 9's would be well, probably not usable. See what you come up with. Best of luck, Lucy

The prescription does not go in the external wraparound lens, which would certainly cause distortion. The prescription attaches behind the external lens - it is like a small set of regular eyeglasses attached to the frame. See it here

The main thing would be to get a very thin, hi-index lens and make sure the insert would still fit into the wrap-around when the lenses are in it---you'll have to look closely, and see if there's enough clearance. That's the difficult part, according to the optician I go to.

Keeping this in mind, I think I'd look into them if I were you. Or anyone with a high RX and dry eyes. I didn't have dry eyes before Lasik (or didn't know it) so I didn't have to work around this problem with high RX. It is only slightly better with my newer "lasik" correction. Wish I still had to work with my old eyes.

If you and/or Calli look further into these, I hope you'll report on them. This is a rare find, but they must work correctly to be of good use. Lucy

I bought some of these exact glasses because here in the UK it was impossible to find anywhere tht stocks panoptx or wileys that I could try on.

The fit is very good, they are very lightweight and comfortable, and I got dark, amber and clear lenses as well as the prescription insert because I need RX for distance like you obviously do.

The foam seal is fairly close to my face BUT there is a disadvantage: there are little ventilation spaces all around which - if it's a really windy day - still allow air in.

So for me they have only been a partial solution. Of course I haven't tried panoptx or wiley so can't really compare, but what I can tell you is that on some days (very windy or cold)the Adidas don't give me as good protection as the cheap "fit-over" goggles I bought on Ebay.

Of course they look a lot neater - the fit-overs are HUGE and make you look like something out of "The Fly" - so I guess it's a bit of a trade-off.

Indoors they offer better protection (aircon etc) than out doors at the moment.

I know how you feel trying to make this decision...it's awfully difficult specially when you're paying out quite a lot of money.

They really help me with reading and computer: whereas before it became intolerable quite quickly, it now is uncomfortable - but tolerable. They also help outdoors, although as Eva_b says, there is some airflow on windy days.

The versatility is nice - I can use the orange lens indoors and the dark lens outdoors. They also have a strap in case you want to use them for sports. That's why I decided on these rather than the Seefit MEG's, although I would be interested in reviews of the seefits. One downside is that the adidas is pretty expensive if you need a high RX insert in them.

oh, great! I am also searching for imformation above outdoor glasses.

I think it is hard to find panoptx at my place. There may be some sport google like a swimming google that have real wraparound...but it is too ugly for walk on a busy town.

But those seems not wraparound...they only block the front wind, which useful for "normal" people riding bike on a windy day. And the main function is "cool guy looking"...
Do your adidas have better shielding than those?

I had idea for buying a inductrial safty glasses fitover...but quite strange to wear that.
Have saw a fitover sunglass on a shop 1 time, it is quite a big object...look like an insect...

I consider the use of windless glasses at night time <<<<<<<<<<
I usually don't go out a night, I use sunglasses to hide my sore eye at day, but wear sunglasses at night is strange and I can't see the road..........:P

Can the adidas climacool change the sunglass to less darker one? better have a clear/light grey for nighttime...


I had -10D...I think the index limit for glasses on website usually saying a index 1.5 plastic. -9D may use 1.8 glass or 1.7 plastic lens.

They should have better protection than the rudy project you linked to, as the adidas have a (removable) foam seal all the way around.

How good is it outside door?

Fit over is it saying the safty glasses like with 3 side blocking or saying a wraparound google?

Tried adidas climcool, it don't fit my face!
Large gap on the top edge. Is it needed to use the head strip to force it cover on the face?
Haven't find the smaller size for the lady one.

I think there is only one size. The strap does make the fit tighter. I don't use it b/c for some reason my vision is distorted with the strap (but not without it). You can also adjust the nose piece and ear pieces to get a better fit.
