Ever since LASIK in Aug 2011 I have suffered with dry eye. For the first few months my eyes didn't get that dry overnight they dried up more as the day wore on.

That all changed a few days before x'mas when I woke up one day with my eyes looking like something out of a horror movie they were so bloodshot. Ever since my eyes have been getting very dry overnight. I have tried countless types of gels and eye drops to lubricate my eyes overnight and even get up twice a night to put more drops in all to no avail.

I'm thinking about getting some night time eyewear and was thinking about the tranquil eyes chronic dry eye kit. I looked at them on the shop and there are no customer reviews for them. I would be interested in hearing from people who use or have used tranquil eyes to hear how effective they are.

Any responses greatly appreciated.

Allergy?

I can't speak to the tranquileyes nightwear but being a Sjogren's sufferer I too have tried all types of drops and gels. I too used to wake up looking like something out of a low budget horror flick but my eyes would improve as the day went on. One day I had an epiphany that I was allergic to the gel and sure enough when I quit using it the problem disappeared. Since then I try to use preservative free drops and fare much better if I do. Systane Ultra is my drop of choice at the moment. My advice is always suspect allergies if you seem to be worse rather than better.

I've thought about that but my eyes still look a mess when I don't use gel and just use preservative free drops. At the moment I mainly use a gel called Clinitas Hydrate at night though I have no idea whether that has preservatives in or not. I've looked at the list of ingredients in it and I'm still none the wiser. If anyone could help me out with this or with advice about the tranquileyes nightwear I would really appreciate it.

re-the clinitas hydrate, does it come in single use twist off cap vials? which would them be preservative free..
Or is it in a bottle which you simply replace the cap and use over and over again till it runs out? which would therefore need the preservative in..

Thanks for that Colin. It's in a bottle with a replaceable cap so I take it that means preservatives. I also sometimes use Celluvisc 1% drops overnight which come in twist off cap vial form does anyone know if they are preservative free?

I have been using my tranquileyes for 2 weeks now. I am sorry that I waited so long to try them. My eyes feel so much better in the morning. I put theratears gel in my left eye (that eye is not so severe) and Muro 128 ointment in my right eye before going to bed. I am still having issues with bluriness in my right eye, but my doctor is pretty sure that I now have Recurrent Corneal Erosion in that eye. I go back on Friday for a follow-up. I have an appt. with a corneal specialist in May. I do not have any issues with sleeping with them. I used to wake up (even with a humidifier) feeling like my eyes were glued shut. No more. I would recommend them.

I also should have mentioned that there was a lot of useful information on this site (Dry Eye Shop) from Rebecca on the tranquileyes. I also saw on Amazon.com that there were reviews if you would like more opinions. I also discussed this with my eye doctor before purchasing them.

Sorry if the reviews are hard to find in the shop - you might need to look under another version of it (for example the spare goggle or the Basic kit if you've been looking at the Chronic). Surprised there aren't more - it's probably the single most-used non-drop consumer dry eye product on the market. For a lot of cases I think it's been eclipsed by the Onyix/Quartz silicone shields because they're easier/simpler to use but for maximal protection & moisture or to help hold lids down Tranquileyes is useful to an awful lot of people. Sometimes it can take some tinkering to get it to work just right for you.

Read the product info for both pairs but not sure what the real difference is between the basic and chronic dry eye kits?

The goggle is the same in all kits (except XR which is much larger and has thermoeyes beads in it). The difference is just in the 'extras'. Basic has the goggle (fitted with foam), a spare foam set and the mesh wash bag. Chronic has two spare foamsets, a bottle of cleanser, microfiber travel sack and the mesh bag. I think Basic is fine for practically everyone... you just need something to wash the foam but baby shampoo works great and is cheap. Chronic is handy if you want to not have to buy anything extra for about 6 months. In the US I usually tell people just get BASIC because you can buy the other stuff separately anyway if you need it - best to first just figure out whether the goggle agrees with you. However I'm not sure how many of the spares & such are sold separately in the UK?

Also... if you wear a large hat size or have any concerns about Tranquileyes fitting (or for example want to make sure there's no likelihood of pressure on the lids) you might want to opt for the XR size. It's super comfortable. Only sold with the thermoeyes heat inserts though.

Wow, so sorry to hear that. They shouldn't have an odor, that's odd? Possibly washing the foam with some kind of soap you tolerate really well might help? Some people truly cannot tolerate that foam though for one reason or another, either skin sensitivity or whatever. I know some people line it with plastic wrap, but it doesn't work for everyone. Or maybe a natural fabric like a muslin liner over it? Most places they're sold let you return it for any reason too....

I've been really pleased to see how many people do as well, or almost as well, with the Onyix & Quartz silicone shields as with Tranquileyes. For some people definitely not enough protection but for others it seems to be just about right. There are also people coming up with their own jury-rigged hybrids, fitting the Onyix out with say a half-thickness Tranquileyes pad in the center or trimmed to size.

I made myself an eye mask yesterday from a two bits of silk lying around, with parcel tape on the outside and knicker elastic to keep it on. Silk is supposed to be healing. It works great keeping the moisture in and cost nothing. I am well chuffed
