Not sure if this will help someone at some point, but here goes, it's probably that kind of easy stuff I wanted to ask at some point:
1. Before taping eyes, take some of the stickiness off (I got this from Ian...) - I put it on the back of my hand and pull off once.
2. I use Hansaplast bandage tape (it's transparent and doesn't cause me irritation) but there are other options (see the dry eye shop)
3. Do strips in sizes that feel good to you, i.e. there is no 'special' length. I do two strips on my 'bad' eye. One on the good eye. If they are too long they are annoying.
4. I put it on my top lid, close eye, then stick the rest to my cheek (think I got that from Ian too...). And no I don't get it right first time very often! -- If sometimes they don't sit right and you can't get to sleep - try to reposition, if still not ok, maybe it's not a good tape day...take them off...
5. I find tape good under mask and goggles. But I mix-and match...typically whatever feels right that evening goes...I don't use tape every day by any means.
6. If you need to get up in the night, then peel back the tape off your cheek for your 'good' eye...one eye's enough to find the bathroom...And you only need to pull it up off your cheek, you can leave it on the eyelid. (this point might be obvious but you never know...)
7. Dribble drops in and around the corners when you wake in the night - they do seep in. Of course if this isn't working for you then yeah open up the tape and put them in.
8. In the morning, drops when you wake and hit snooze, then start peeling slowly after. I let the drops (pres-free ones at this point) go over the tape as this takes the sticky off the sides, makes it easy to unpeel the rest. If you are very sensitive, take them off in the shower or after putting water on...(depends a bit on your tape and eyelids).
These are just my humble experiences, I'm sure others will have others/contradictions, but in case they help anyone new to this someday.
References to 'good' eye 'bad' eye are meant in terms of many of us have a difference in which is worse, I tend to try and leave my 'worse' (bad) eye alone in the night wherever possible.
