Onyix silicone shield for lagophtalmos?

Can the Onyix silicone shield be worn at night for nocturnal lagophtalmos? Is the material hard enough?

I had the same question, Leo, when I read Rebecca's newsletter this morning. I went to the eyeeco site, but Rebecca's review at the Dry Eye Shop was better!

This part seems to answer your question:

"What's it like? The overall concept is closely similar to Tranquileyes, i.e. eyecups with a nose connector and the classic fabric wrap. Here is how it is different from Tranquileyes:

* The eyecups are made of silicone - slick, soft, thin and flexible; enough to be worn directly against the face without discomfort.
* There is no foam lining, so a) no added moisture; b) the eyecups fit right against the orbital bone; and c) there is no added padding that would help hold lids down."

While I was psyched to try something newer and better, being a "dry eye product junkie," which is to say desperate for something that will work, I don't think that this product is for me at the moment. I will stick with my regular Tranquileyes for my lagophthalmos problem for now.

(I like the slick "Darth Vader" / "Matrix" look of them, though!)

Just want to add a note here... My first reaction is to say "Nope not a good match for lagophthalmos" but one brief caveat. There are a number of folks with lagophthalmos who can't tolerate anything pressing on their lids, but because of the exposure problem, sometimes (everyone is unique...) they still get substantial benefit from a moisture chamber even without any forced lid closure. I'm thinking of some customers who use the Escape or use Tranquileyes without the moisture pads. Possibly someone in that category, who does not get along well with the bulky effect of those products, would prefer the Onyix.

I have a pair, worn once, I didn't get on with them, anyone in Europe who's a bit short of cash and wanted to try them, I'm happy to post (and donate) them to you. I'll wash them and you can wash them on the other side - but only worn once, honest!!

Absolutely OK of course... I'm all for recycling dry eye products The only products not OK to share, swap etc in this forum are prescription drugs.
