Thank you Mazza818 for posting your results! I had Lipiflow done a few days ago and I am hoping to have the same results as you. I am also doing the warm compresses and fish oil, plus Omega 3s.

Did you by chance have a sticky feeling in your eyes after a few days after Lipiflow? I'm finding I'm waking up seeing oil around my eyes, but it is a bit thick and sticky. I am hoping this goes away and things normalize in a few weeks.

Congrats on your some what success! I hope it continues I'm still looking for mines, hoping once I get my allergies under control things will be okay again, and oils have improved for me I hope due to Thera tears. Unlucky for me I can't afford any of those things, too expensive so I have to go down another route. I've also heard mixed things, but glad something worked for you!

    Hi everyone

    Good news.

I can report a huge amount of improvement in terms of the eyes dryness. I can rate the improvement in dryness 8/10. I am continuing to notice increased oil production, the glands seem to be producing good amount of oil to surface the tear film; which prevents the tears from drying so quick. I have to also mention; I am have been taking fish oil and being done warm compressions from the day I got the treatment of lipiflow. Not sure If i was getting the same result had i not done daily warm compresses and taken fish oils

I am also seeing improvements in the inflammation or burning sensation of the eyelids; the improvement is not as huge as I have seen with the dryness but I shouldnt perhaps expect such a quick fix. All those years of dryness can't be reversed in just 4 weeks. I would rate the inflammation prior to the treatment I would rate 8 or 9/10 with 10 being worst, now I can rate about 5 or 6/10. Huge room for improvement still; but not far enough. The eyes still feel fatigued, tired and most of all burning of the eyelids.

This treatment has been a life saver for me. It was quite unbearable before; I can cope with it now. I really hope this treatment works for all of your dry eyes sufferers out there. Goodluck and all the best!

Dry eye patient - 6 years of dry eyes as result of taking accutane/roaccutane for acne.

    Hi Everyone,

I just had Lipiflow yesterday and today my eyes feel worse. They feel more dry than usual and very sticky. Yesterday when I had the Lipiflow for a few hours after I felt wonderful, there was a lot of oil for the first time in a long time. Today they feel grittier than usual and very sticky. Is it normal with the Lipiflow to feel worse after the procedure? I was not given steroid drops or anything after the procedure like I have heard some people get afterwords.

    Anyone have experience with this?

    Thanks!

    Hi everyone,
I thought I would give another update. I have been seeing Dr. Yee in Houston since March. I really like him. He has an extremely busy practice but he has been very thorough and patient with me - I ask a lot of questions!
While I am not ready to post in the triumph section, my eyes are much better these days. I can usually tolerate the computer for hours as long as I remember to do my blinking exercises. My primary issues now are gusty winds and prolonged exposure to fans, blowing air, etc.

I think I got to this point through a combination of things, but seeing Dr. Yee has been a huge help. I am now quadra-plugged (upper lids have partial plugs to prevent "Niagra" effect) This helped a lot with the dryness. My next step was to start using Dr. Yee's spironolactone drops. I was reluctant to try them at first. If you read the literature on spiro, it seems contradictory to use it for dry eyes. But, Dr. Yee walked me through his research and even showed me the poster he presented on spiro drops at a recent conference. I've been on the drops for 1.5 months. The first month, he suggests using the drops 4x daily. However, the drops do burn a bit much for me and I had a lot of reflexive tearing, so I have been using them 2x a day. I've noticed quite a decrease in burning. In fact, it has become unusual for me to have all day burning like I used to. Some days, I have no pain at all. My moisture and oil levels seem much improved.

I have been able to decrease eye drops from every 1-2 hours to about 3-4x a day.

    I'll keep everyone posted!

But all in all it's a big relief. The main thing that makes me happy and confident is that my clogs are still open and I don't have to do lid hygiene. I feel great. But my eyes will never be the same as before my acne therapy. I'm pretty sue that everyone who has eye problems due to an acne therapy will get relief! Stay patient!

    That's good news, DeyDey.

Out of interest, what dosage of roaccutane were you on, and for how long? How long has it been since you stopped roaccutane/had dry eyes for? It would be very interesting to compare and to help each other find a permanent solution. I believe we can, since our glands have not been atrophied, and we are unusual because our dry eyes are not caused by an incurable condition, like sjogrens or lasik nerve damage.

    Hi guys

Just another post about 2 weeks post treatment; I am already seeing an increased in the amount of oil flow. The glands seems to produce more oil now as oppose to before treatment. Which means my tears doesnt dry up as quick as it used to. Even when I am looking at the mirror I can notice the increased oil in my eyes. My eyes now doesnt feel as dry or gritty or that sand feeling in my eyes like I used to get, however, I am still having inflammed/burn feeling on my eyelids, more so on the lower eyelids. The burn feeling has decreased obviously but its not completely eliminated.

I have to mention that the improvement is not just because of lipiflow, I have been putting warm pads and then compressing my eyelids too ever since the treatment daily; so I wouldnt give all credits to the lipiflow but it has certainly helped. Because I did try the warm pads and massage before the treatment and I was getting no relief whatsoever, If anything It was making my eyelids burn ever more. So I would say lipiflow has helped; complemented with the warm pad and eyelid compression done by myself once daily.

Guys please keep in mind, I am only 2 weeks post treatment. I am excited to see how much better my eyes feel after 4/5 weeks post treatment.

Overall, I am quite happy with the improvement to my eyes dryness; doesnt feel too dry now, still not 100% obviously but a huge improvement to dryness and If my eyelid inflammation improves a bit more I will be quite happy.

Cost wise; It is abit expensive, $2100 in Melbourne Australia, but if things go the way its going now and I get even better results after a few weeks and months I think its worth every penny.

I will keep you guys updated again soon in the future. I am keen to know about others and their experience. Feel free to share please!

    Hi, DeyDey,

How long after you had the treatment did you notice that you felt better? I'm also a roaccutane sufferer that had just had lipiflow. I've felt no difference yet.

    Hi all

I had a lipiflow treatment done at Collins St Opto in Melbourne today I will keep you guys posted about the result. I have been told that I might not get a result immediately but I should expect to see good results after 3/4 weeks post treatment of lipiflow.
I have also been advised to use warm pads over my eyelids and massage the eyelids twice daily, which is going to be a challenge, specially if you have to do it twice.

Background info to my dry eyes:

It all started about 6/7 years ago when I was taking accutane for acne. The doctors belief there may be a link to issue; I CERTAINLY think the drug is to blame.

I will do another post in 4/5 weeks from now. I hope it works for the sake of us all dry eye sufferers.
    Good day

    ACCUTANE INDUCED MGD.

    Hi Deydey89

My story is very similar to yours. I also used roaccutane for acne about 6 years ago and have been having dry eyes for ever since. My glands are also clogged and doesnt produce enough oil.

Its definitely the drug that has caused the dryness in our eyes. I regret taking the drug, i would rather have acne than to suffer with dry eyes for the rest of my life.

Your post gives me some hope. I will get lipiflow done soon.
