Xpro, your upper (inner) eyelids and lid margins look alot like mine. I can see some mild MG capping going on (its hard to see but you can see it), I have this on my upper lids too. Your inner eyelids have vascular blood vessels like mine also (but my lowers are much worse than my uppers), not sure what your lowers are like.
For what its worth, its unlikely you have dead MG's at 23, your glands are prob just not functioning properly due to inflammation etc.

From reading other user's experiences on this forum I noticed that during the Lipiflow consultation they check for "dead" glands. I'm 23 years old and have had dry eye problems from the time I was around 18-19. Can some of my glands be "dead" by now? Unfortunately its the long weekend so I can't make an appointment yet. I'm hoping that I won't have any dead glands. When they say dead glands does that mean it will never ever work again?

RE: LipiView and LipiFlow
I've never had any refractive surgery so I can't comment on what the rules are wrt any assessment and/or treatment.
Yes, the doctors at Herzig give you other treatment options besides LipiFlow based on their findings during the consultation and LipiView.
For my other posts on LipiView/LipiFlow see here:

I called Herzig for an assessment when I was in Toronto over the summer. I was only about four months post lasik. I believe that Herzig and the lipiFlow procedure require you to be at least 7 months post op. . . but I'm not sure.
I think I'll at least get the assessment done when I my flaps have healed enough. Although I would be worried that the procedure might damage the flaps. Does the doctor give treatment suggestions too?

RE: Lipiflow
LipiView is what they call the assessment/consult prior to LipiFlow (treatment). At Herzig in Toronto,
The consult will cost $120.00 and if you go ahead with the treatment it will cost $700/eye. The fee will include the follow up visits.
I've had two LipiView (assessments). I got good information about my MGs from both of them and I actually recommend them if you've got (or think you've got) problems with your MGs.

MGD comes in many shapes and forms. Some people have signs visible to the naked eye and others don't.

Do I have MGD? pics included
Hello
A little history about my eyes: I started wearing contacts at around 16 years old, I got an eye infection a year later and after it was resolved I resumed contacts again. My contacts were starting to get uncomfortable and I would get red irritated eyes often. At around the time I was 18 to 19 years old I was unable to have contacts in my eye even for more than 5 minutes that how bad it burned and got irritated. I noticed how thick my mucus was and I took the contact out and put it in the solution I noticed a lot of oil being on it. I stopped wearing contacts for good and still my eyes were not feeling healthy I would sometimes get a swollen eyelid specially on windy days.
I got PRK surgery about 4 months later and I think the PRK went pretty well. I was using artificial tear drops at this point, about 5 times a day. I tired many things and found out the best thing that worked for me was fish oil and flaxseed oil (Theratears Nutrition) it was kind of under control while I was using it but on my lid margin it was always red if I looked under my upper eyelid.
I'll be having a surgery which is not related to my eyes in about 2 weeks and my doctor told me to stop taking the fish and flaxseed oil. After about 3 days I remembered how much of a bad shape my eyes are in cause all of my symptoms returned, which made me start doing research online to see if I can cure this once and for all.
In the mornings its hard for me to open my eyes and my eyes always feel tired which I believe are symptoms of MGD, I looked at my upper lid margins and noticed its red with uneven small bumps on it. I took pics but its not as visible in the picture. I'm trying to see a dry eye specialist so I can be sure if its MGD.I have attached the pictures and in real life I can see small bumps too but they are not visible in the pictures. Please tell me if that looks like MGD. And I forgot to mention I'm now 23 years old.
Thank You
