  • Bletharitis and Dry Eye...

Does anyone else have a similar problem?
I have bletharitis and facial eczema on top of my dry eye. It just seems my eyes start to fell better and then I scratch my eyes to bits overnight in my sleep and it's all over grover. Then it can take weeks for it to settle down again. I can resist itching my eyes during the day but when I'm asleep I have no control over it. I take antihistamines but they don't stop the itching.

    Hi,
blepharitis and eczema are very common amongst DE sufferers (as are topical allergies problems,a really unusal prevalence to consider it as unrelated, they are probably related in keratoconus as well though you should know)...
maybe suggest a doxycycline trial to your doc...
    take care,
    K

Have you tried an eye mask to protect your eyes while you sleep?

        Doxycycline

Hi, Doc put me on that at the beginning of Dec last year and it did nothing but give me Thrush (which it wasn't supposed to).
I'm just finding it hard at the mo because my Opth told me to leave my eyes alone but when I wake in the morning and I've got stuff crusted all around my eyes (tried using my DE drops before bed and it only made it worse) and my face is all puffy and swollen (like I've eaten something I shouldn't have) it's hard. I try to be really gentle (which I am). It takes a few hours before the puffyness subsides and I start to feel even remotely human. My eyes have been sore and dry for years but never like this.
I'm having problems healing the skin around my eyes caused by all the irritation and watering.
Going to see my Opth on Monday and hopfully he can help.
I know nothing about Keratoconus except what I've found on the internet.
Also why is it they say "when it comes to your eyes see a doctor immediatly" but I have to wait 3-6 weeks for an appointment with a specialist?

          Hi Abbey
My Lasik Dr was always away or hard to get into for an appointment, but my husband's glaucoma eye Dr is much better. If you strike the right day of the week(ie not operating at public hospital, or doing a clinic in another town), he has been able to get in almost immediately!
Your eyes being swollen reminded me of a friend who has recently had cataracts done and her eyes all swelled up (at 5 weeks or so) and she has been told it is an allergic reaction to the preservative - benzylkonium chloride!!! She goes to hubby's Dr and got in straight away! I only hope she doesn't end up with dry eye now.

            Hi Dotanne,

I'm not currently using anything with that preservative in it, the one I'm currently using has Purite as the preservative.
