  • How to clean lid margins?

I am using Johnson's baby shampoo and shutting my eyes and rubbing the shampoo along my upper lashline. Am I supposed to use a q-tip and rub the shampoo along the inside of my bottom lid as well? Is there a YouTube video out there or can someone tell me how to correctly do this? My doctor said my glands are clogged/plugged so she prescribed minocycline to thin the oil and also put plugs in my lower ducts.

Oh, I'm also warm compressing morning and night. Am I supposed to do this before or after I lid wash?

My doctor does not express glands. I'm wondering if lid washing, compressing, and minocycline works together to unclog the glands without having to express?

    "How-to" directions much appreciated!

Over here in U.K the National health service (N.H.S) tell you to warm compress (not scalding as skin on eye lids is so thin!(you will do though-lol i think everyone has)
for upto 10mins, this has two fuctions, (A) if the oil is too thick? it the heat will make it more 'liquidy' (is that a real word?), and (B) also like having a shave(i hope you are male cali?) warmth opens the glands.
THEN!.....using the pad of your index finger gently (and i mean GENTLY!!) gently hold your upper lid down with pad of index finger from same hand as side you are doing first? pull lid (gently!) down so it is taught..run the pad of your finger from your other hand in a downwards motion starting at the top of lid obviously, always start at nasel corner and repeat 10 times making your way to the opposite side of closed, taught eyelid.
THEN!... 10 horizontal (GENTLE!!) again starting at nasel corner same spot, just above your eye lashes.
I could never do the Q-tip properly and just poked myself in the eye causing 'pink eye' a.k.a 'bloodshot'.. upper lid was not to bad-just pull eyelid taught using pad of index finger outwards horizontaly(away from nasel corner)...
Rebecca posted a video a while back, where the specialist asked "are we doing more harm than good? overdoing it?" the lids and glands are so delicate....
I eventually resorted to while showering in the morning put your face under the shower jet for a minute or two (dont forget to breath!) this would be the 'warm compress' then did the lid massages also under the shower jet(whilst remembering to breath of course).
I'm pretty sure water penetrates the eyelids, so also refreshes your eyes, first thing in the morning...
Oh, and if you have Blepharitis? and the tiny flakes between eyelashes? the warmth compress etc, will act as to loosen the 'flakes' so your Q-tip can now remove them easier. DONT USE SAME Q-TIP on a both eyes! one Q-tip per eye lid!! 4x in total...(lids+Q-tips)... And go easy on the baby shampoo, it will end up in your eye inevitably, and you should aviod ZERO anything go into your eyes..

Ahhhhh, Female Colin but I'm guessing our lids are the same!! Thank you for the above. It's funny, I keep leaving the doctor's office with more questions. I've been compressing then washing. I need to reverse order. And, I don't have Blepharitis so I'm OK there but will use the technique above to clean the lid margins. Wonder why you don't leave their office with a "cheat sheet" for when you get home?
