  • tea tree or dandruff shampoo for eye lid scrub?

I've been trying to do eyelid scrubs and read that Selsun Blue was a good thing to use, but wonder if I would be better off with one of the lid scrubs containing TeaTree Oil. Any opinions?

For teenager with sore eyes, we used organic tea tree shampoo 1 part in 50 of warm water - most days for about a month, then tapered off to weekends only. Look out for sensitivity developing. Gentle tea tree facewashes have been useful (currently using Body Shop).

We used Head & Shoulders shampoo on the hair maybe once or twice a week. The rest of the time we used Simple shampoo, which is a cheap and super-mild UK range suggested by the dermatologist. But not on the eyes directly - we just let it wash over.

It was important to do the eyelid margins carefully and closely at the eyelash bases - we used cotton buds and wiped with cotton wool soaked in the solution (separate for each eye to be super-hygienic).

This was for eyes with blepharitis from teenage acne rosacea.

Typically hair shampoos do not have the correct Ph to not harm the delicate skin around the eyes or if some should get in the eyes and cause irritation. Here in the US there are several lid cleansers designed specifically for use around the eyes. Some have Tea Tree oil and others clean sufficiently without the use of Tea Tree.

Good news if there are anti-demodex formulations! We used the tea tree shampoo for confirmed demodex, and Head & Shoulders as a shampoo but some dripping over the face in case there was Malassezia furfur (she had had Tinea versicolor on the hairline in previous year) (pharmacist suggested it).
