  • lid therapy without blepharitis??

Would lid therapy be any use if a person doesn't have blepharitis??

I just visited my optician and she said she couldn't see any sign of blepharitis so I was wondering if there would be any point in lid therapy for me...

not a doc but here are my thoughts:

Lid therapy (lid scrubs, lid massage, hot compresses) is aimed generally at improving meibomian gland function. Blepharitis is only one cause of inadequate MG function. If your MGs are underperforming for whatever reason, it's reasonable to expect there may be potential for improvement and lid therapy is often a good way to improve them.

Lid scrubs are commonly known as a blepharitis treatment because they are designed to improve eyelid hygiene, but can also possibly stimulate MG secretions by applying pressure. That's more like lid massage, but the lines can blur a little sometimes.

Hot compresses may be useful to severe dry eye patients for pain relief, even apart from any benefits to the MGs.
