I don't think there are any hard & fast rules. Doing it at all is more important than doing it just so. But also it depends what you mean by 'lid scrubs'. If it's just hygiene, that's one thing. But if it's more about lid massage, I think that makes more sense after a warm compress because that's when the oil in the glands will be softer/easier to express if needed.

Thanks Rebecca. I do the massage after the hot compress but am am nsure whether I should be cleaning the lid (lid hygiene with bi carbonate of soda or baby shampoo) before the massage or after. I often experience stinging after the rice baggy and wonder if it is do with not wiping things off the eye.
