  • Battery Powered or Plug-in Heated Eye Masks

I get a lot of relief when I do hot compresses. However, I can never do a hot compress for any longer than a few minutes at a time because whatever I use gets cold. I've tried using things like:
    - Rice baggies
    - Potatoes
    - Gel eye masks
    - Thermo Eyes
    - Hot wash cloth

None of them last very long for me.

However, what do you think about these products? I haven't purchased any of them yet, but I'm very seriously considering it, especially since I can't afford LipiFlow:

Hey tankie, you're right into it! I've never considered looking up anything like this, they look very good. I like the http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/33..._infrared.html because of the vibration mixed in with the heat. I guess it depends on just trying one out and seeing how it goes

Tankie Tranquileyes makes a mask that can keep moist heat on the eye area for about 20 minutes. My wife found the moist heat better than dry heat. They are available in dry eye shop I think.

The options look interesting... especially the ones that offer constant heat/warmth. Do they tell you what temperature it maintains?

The one thing I'd be careful of is vibration. Just like the warning for LipiFlow, the vibration of a mask could jostle/remove punctal plugs and/or potentially cause harm to the surface of the eye (e.g., if there's an erosion or subtle surface problem).

Indrep's idea is good - I think it's called Thermoeyes Beads. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

        Tankie - I'll email you.

When I said Thermo Eyes, I meant to say Tranquileyes, and ya, for me they didn't work for more than a few minutes

Are you sure they aren't still warm and your eyes are just getting used to the feel of the heat? I realized my rice sock (microwaved for 45 seconds then wrapped in a warm, wet washcloth) was warmer than I thought after I took it off and then re-applied it. Same with Tranquileyes; I took them off to check and the inserts were warm to my finger.

My rice sock has quite a bit of rice in it (I overfilled it) so it may maintain heat longer than some but I've used it for 15 minutes at a time without it getting too cool, even though it feels cooler on my eyes than it really is.

Remember, you don't want to burn your lids. Too hot isn't good either.
